I liked the little room a lot, it might not have been spacious but it didn't lake anything and the view was amazing. If you can you should stay for a few days and enjoy the village and the surrounding area

Quinta do Barrieiro had been recommended to us by friends and it did not disappoint. Our room was lovely and spacious and the bed extra comfy. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the farm dog was so gorgeous! Even though we went during winter it was still a great spot for a lovely break.

We stayed at Quinta d'Abegoa's apartment, Casa do Souto, which is very cosy and ideal for two people. Everything is really well thought out so the apartment felt bigger than it actually was. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is excellent. The outside space is beautiful - we loved sitting out, listening to the birds and the bells from the sheep, while enjoying the views of the both the castle and over towards the mountains and Spain. We made the most of being able to walk to restaurants in Marvao (although it is uphill all the way!) but we also cooked at the property - the kitchen is tiny but is very well-equipped and has everything you need to self-cater. Our host, Rosa, looked after us extremely well, bringing us breakfast every day, and nothing was too much trouble. We love the area around Marvao and will definitely return for another stay at Casa do Souto.

We stayed at Dom Dinis, overlooking the valley below, in December 2023. Hardly any tourists, wonderfully friendly area. Be sure to visit the church (Igreja de Santiago) of which Saramago wrote on his journey around Portugal! We ate at the excellent Varanda do Alentejo, the lamb stew was fantastic.

The castle is a must see.
The castle is a must see. The views from all directions were unobstructed and gave one the feeling of what it must have been like centuries before when the castle was used as a defensive weapon. Well worth the trip and one had access to almost the entire outer wall.

We stayed in Marvão for 3 days, 2 nights and spent the days touring around. I HIGHLY recommend taking the biking tour with Rail Bike Marvão, it's 16km through the heart of Marvão's nature.
I also HIGHLY recommend you visit the small town or Castelo de Vide.

Amazing old town and stunning castle and scenery. So quiet and relaxing. Even though we have been in the castle and museum, we intend to come back and do it all again because it was such an enjoyable experience.

Just being here gives a lift to the soul!
Just being here gives a lift to the soul! It is beautiful, everyone is so friendly, every winding street you walk down brought a smile to my face, and THAT VIEW!! You turn a corner and it takes your breath away. I walked here from Castelo de Vide and the path was well marked and gorgeous, with birds of prey hovering and I even saw what I think is an Egyptian mongoose.... Lots of beautiful arts and crafts and good restaurants. I stayed at the Estalagem de Marvao which couldnt be faulted, really beautiful and friendly. Totally recommended (tho some parts of the town walls are not for the faint hearted - but there are plenty of steps down if it gets too much for the vertiginous!).
The position is excellent. The owner is a very helpful and friendly man who speaks good English and the other staff I met were also lovely. Breakfast in the breakfast room was generous and fresh. Well catered.
In general comment on Marvao itself, obviously the streets are very narrow and parking is available in various places. If you can judge it without previously being there, choose a parking spot at the higher elevation as carrying your luggage is difficult and bag wheels on cobblestone streets don't work.
We loved our stay at Casinha de Marvao. The house was clean and comfortable and it was really cosy with the wood burner. The kitchen was well equipped. The location was great - beautiful views towards Spain and we enjoyed being able to leave the house to wander around the town and castle in the evening to see the sunset and during the day for more exploring of the castle. We enjoyed the well marked walking trails to Portagem and Castelo de Vide and so didn’t need to use a car during our stay.
The Hotel is centrally located inside the historic walls of the village within easy walking distance to the castle and all along the ramparts which offer amazing views. Plentiful free parking was available next to the property.
Breakfast had a lot of variety and staff was able to accommodate us with GF bread and recommended the very good Varanda do Alentejo restaurant for supper.
The town has a high end feel to it with all the buildings nicely renovated while keeping their historic charm.
We loved this hotel.
The owner Joaquim was very friendly. He welcomed us personally with some small talk .
He gave us all the information we needed about the hotel and the village of Marvão.
The room was very spacious and very clean.
The bathroom had a big window, and was well ventilated.
Wi-fi was very good all around the room.
Breakfast was good, and served based on the request of each one of the guests.
Free parking near the hotel.
Gorgeous little house, completely redone with attention to the minimal details. very peculiar division of the space, which makes it very cozy and architecturally amazing. Everything seems to be brand new, sparkling clean, and they thought of absolutely everything a guest May want or need. The hosts Alexandra and José were fantastic. A flawless, extremely comfortable and peaceful place firm which to enjoy the magic of Marvão!
We didn't realize just how exotic the town of Marvao was - a very pretty tiny hill-town perched on the top of a rocky outcropping. And this property is actually a small house that works very well if you end up booking both rooms like we did - one upstairs from the main room, which includes a nice livingroom and full kitchen. Highly recomend if you're a family or even a couple that likes to spread out with a bit of space.
Located in a beautiful country side, surrounded by nature is great location to hike or bike. It is close to Castelo de Marvao, Castelo da Vide, Menhir de Meade and other lovely medioeval towns, is a place to relax or work with creative projects. I could stay longer if I had have the time, this place is in my list for my next trip to Portugal.
The house was beautifully designed, decorated and furnished. It was spacious and comfortable, with all the equipment you could need. The views were wonderful over the valley and towards Marvao and the mountains. The only sound was sheep bells. Really, one of the best places we have stayed. Also, the host was helpful and kind.
Estalagem do Marvâo is a real gem and worth the drive up winding roads to get there. The beds were comfy (the absolute quiet of the town was a plus), lots of hot water and a good shower, and a lovely breakfast. We would love to come back and stay here again.
Marvao is an amazing place and Casa da Arvore is an excellent place to stay. It is a family guesthouse with very welcoming hosts, it is very clean and well taken care of, snd location wise is judt perfect.
Perfect location to explore Marvao. The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, with a lot of variety. While we didn't have time to use the hot tub, it had a gorgeous view.
Amazing views and surrondings! The landscape is....impossible to describe! You need to see it!! Opening the door to the balcony and see the beautiful view of Marvao is breathtaking!
Spotlessly clean and beautiful property with plenty of free parking outside. Lovely room and good breakfast. Marvão is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit.
