Home Away From Home, hotel in Caniçal

Offering mountain views, Home Away From Home is an accommodation set in Caniçal, 600 metres from Ribeira do Natal Beach and 22 km from Santana's traditional houses.

Our hosts were friendly and accommodating! Our flight was a little delayed so we ended up arriving later than check-in time, but it wasn't a problem and they met us at the property when we arrived. They had great advice as to where we should visit around the island and even helped us out with transport when we needed it. The apartment itself was so cute and perfect for me and my friends. We are a group of 20 year old girls and we felt completely safe and comfortable the entire time. The town itself is great too and there is a beautiful black sand beach about 7 minutes away by car. Overall great experience and 10/10 recommend!

Dom Pedro Madeira, hotel in Caniçal

Situated on the island of Madeira, the Dom Pedro Madeira is located on the beach of Machico Bay.

The view from our room was amazing over the bay, and the corridor only had one other room so no noise late at night from others .Breakfast was good choice shame only one coffee machine working massive queues for a drink and took two more mornings to fix the broken machine . Table tennis table . Always review for mobility/disabled. Although there are lifts to rooms and sloped front entrance the dining area has at least 4 steps down so not wheelchair accessible as far as I could see. Staff helpful Welcoming bottle Madeira wine and water on arrival with biscuits. Machico is a lovely town close to airport with bus station. We went everywhere by bus

    Small little harbour front town

Small little harbour front town Variety of small restaurants Highly recommend Celebrantes, do not recommend Aquarium! Beautiful views but not a town for families. Great if you would like to do walking/hiking, the hills are insane and shops are very small, not commercialised and very local All restaurants are seafood orientated, there is a small Pizza takeaway, so be mindful of planning to visit.

Canical may not be for everyone; it's a small, quiet fishing town with an industrial port and rocky beach. The whale museum is excellent and you can walk there from the apartment (we've been before, so not sure it was open this time so do check). The reason we went to stay in Canical was to walk to ponta Sao lorenco which is a short bus journey away. It's a stunning, dramatic walk along the peninsula you see when you land on Madeira. Canical beach would be improved by having wooden pallets to lie on all year round. Northern European tourists are desperate for sunbathing all year round, it's warm enough for us!

There is nothing special to see and we didn't find any restaurants where the food was outstanding in Caniçal village. The only outstanding restaurant is Quinta do Lorde resort (in the lighthouse).
