A perfectly organised family run boutique resort set against a backdrop of mountains and an atoll.
Location is one of my favourite in French Polynesia,
The place has a super peaceful atmosphere and is great to crash after an active holiday in Polynesia.
The hosts are brilliant and will encourage exploring the local habitat.

The host was very helpful and accommodating. We needed to book at rental car at the last minute and the host was able to book us a car the day before we arrived.
Breakfast was optional, we weren't sure if we going to do breakfast or not. We had a long day before we arrived, so decided to keep things simple and go with the breakfast which the host offered. It was your usual European breakfast - various breads and pastries, fresh fruit (seasonal), choice of cheese (cheese plate), homemade jams. You can also ask for scrambled eggs, not sure if they're an added cost or not?
There's a small communal fridge so you can put groceries in there. So if you wanted to save some money, you have the option of getting groceries and making your own breakfast. Same thing applies with lunch and dinner. You have access to the kitchen, so you can always make your own lunch and dinner.
We had the larger room since that's what was available; it's called the Superior Family Room. Very spacious. Very clean. There was A/C which was very welcomed in that heat! Sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids, or you could do 3 adults but the 2 smaller beds might be a bit small...
One of the nice things of staying at a Pension in French Polynesia is that you get to meet the local people, as well as get to know other guests who are staying there. The hosts were at breakfast every morning, and there was always a lively conversation with everyone at the table.
So it all depends what you're looking for in Mo'orea, if you're looking for something quiet, where you can 'hide' from the world, then maybe a resort is a better fit? But if you're looking for more of an immersive experience and meeting people, then I would consider staying at a Pension.
Also have to talk about their 2 dogs, Rex and Gnocchi! They're a bit goofy, very social and friendly. They mostly hung out by themselves, in the common area and grounds, but did enjoy some scratches behind the ears ;)

Such a lovely, tranquil slices of paradise. Breakfast was provided the night before on a tray to store in our fridge over night. That gave us the flexibility and privacy to have breakfast whenever we wanted. There were free kayaks to take out for a paddle and plenty of chairs to relax on a private beach.

It’s a nice independent bedroom with private bathroom and kitchenette plus sitting area, it is actually a big space for one or two guests. Beautiful and peaceful surrounding. The house is located near the dock where ferries arrive, just minutes away walking. The owner Murielle is a very sweet, friendly and helpful lady. I enjoyed my stay very much and will stay again if I ever come to Moorea.

Super friendly host! Brought us some fresh avocados and always gave us good tips what to see. And the view tho… incredibly beautiful! You feel like you're in the middle of the jungle! Breathtaking!

It didn't feel like a super fancy vacation resort like Bora Bora, but more homey like living in a tropical version of the Shire. The people are very nice. Recommended you know at least some French. Mine was super rusty but I managed to get by only using English about 30-40 percent of the time. Recommended you know at least three phrases in Tahitian: Greetings, thank you, and goodbye.

Paradise - We enjoyed our stay at Maddy's House.
Paradise - We enjoyed our stay at Maddy's House. The attention to detail that the owners have was very evident...lots of pride. The pool was refreshing and the little beach was a gem. From this location, we were close to the waterfall hike (recommended), and there is a great little Chinese restaurant close by.
Beds were comfy, air conditioning worked great, the kitchen is fully stocked and a lot of outdoor seating.
We'd book again - we loved Moorea - some of the best snorkeling we've ever seen.
