It's very well located. You can simply step out of the hotel to see the Northern Lights, when in season. It is also at a convenient distance from most major attractions and transportation points, including the cruise terminal. Very friendly and helpful staff. Some of them went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, both at reception and at the restaurant. We greatly appreciated the options available for vegetarians at the meals served, as also the well prepared meals.

Unique, arty, traditional and lively pretty much sums up the great mix that the island of Tromsø has to offer. The city is home to the unique Arctic Cathedral, an array of pubs, cafés and an energetic street culture.
If you’re planning a day of sightseeing be sure to visit Tromsø Museum, Polar Museum, the University Museum of Tromsø, Mack Brewery, and the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden.
The city’s main square often holds a variety of markets and its streets are lined with colourful and old-style buildings and houses. Tromsø is one of the best places to view the amazing colours of the Northern Lights.
Nicknamed the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ due to being a launching point for polar expeditions, Tromsø provides numerous activities such as hiking and kayaking during summer, and skiing and dog-sledding in winter, all in a backdrop of eye-catching scenery.
Tromsø is easily accessible from major cities such as Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki and Tromsø Airport has direct flights to various European destinations. Check-out Booking.com for a selection apartments and hotels in Tromsø and throughout Norway.

We had good but not excellent weather, which was as expected. It would not have been very enjoyable for us in bad weather.
We much enjoyed the Tromso Museum
The cable car and a short walk at the top was very good, in better weather and with an extra half day we would have walked further.
The Polarama was interesting, but one large dying fish should have been removed from the open tank. A welcome program of expansion is underway.
The Folk Museum provides an opportunity for a gentle walk through forest, but in terms of architectural history etc does not compare with Trondheim.

Trips we booked from Tromso were all easy to locate.
Trips we booked from Tromso were all easy to locate.
Shops and restaurants in abundance, all within easy reach and super ice-cream places that made a good end to a meal out if desserts were a little on the expensive side.

We loved Tromso so much.
We loved Tromso so much. We went in May at just the beginning of the midnight sun. The sun never set which was something to get used to, but so beautiful. We were really lucky with the weather as the sun was shining down. We had 3 full days there. 2 of those days we booked with excursions which were great. Would definitely recommend booking them for most of your days. 1 day we didn't have major plans but we did book into a sauna and do the cable car. I would recommend only 1 day of easy going plans as to make the most out of the city, excursions are great. Every evening we looked at reviews for good restaurants and booked for dinner about 6pm. Lots of choices. I know Tromso is really popular in the winter for the Northern lights so technically this is their quiet time, but we loved it and would recommend you to consider going in the sun. 'Get your guide' is a great website to book activities! Also 'Polar adventure' company has such a nice crew so would definitely book anything with them.

Tromsø is a delightful city in a breathtaking location.
Tromsø is a delightful city in a breathtaking location. We went in May and enjoyed midnight sun over snowy hills. Local people were lovely, very friendly, excellent English. Cards accepted everywhere, didn't use any cash all week. Plenty to see and do, mostly within walking distance but we got cheap 24 bus passes and explored in all directions too. Tromsø billet app useful for cheap tickets. Tourist info staff very helpful. We had a fantastic fjord cruise on the Brim Explorer - highly recommended. Food excellent too, local cafes for lunch, enjoyed a particularly good Indian meal at the Indie Restaurant.

Tromso was okay, only small, not a lot to do, plenty souvenir shops, was nice for 3 nights but wouldn't go for any longer. We went on a boat on the fjords which was 4 hours, would have been better if had only been 2 hours, it was just mountains and water we found it to be boring, and it wasn't cheap, would we recommend, No.

Tromsø is breathtaking and definitely worth visiting,...
Tromsø is breathtaking and definitely worth visiting, regardless of if you're chasing the polar lights, or just want to explore the city and the area during the day. The city is in close touch with nature and offers variety of different activities. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is going there during the Easter holidays (as I did), since a lot of stores, museums, restaurants, etc. tend to be closed.
We loved staying at Marthas Apartments. The view was amazing! We even saw the Northern Lights from our living room window on the last night of our stay! The rooms were spacious and the furnishings, including the bed, were very comfortable! Best of all was the host family. Daughter Christine gave us a fine introduction to the area, with day trip suggestions. Host Are was especially helpful in getting us to our Northern Lights adventure on the night of a huge concert in Tromso! Martha provided a spacious living space! Fabulous.
Considering the prices for hotels in Norway, this was reasonably priced. The kitchen in the room saves more money by avoiding eating at restaurants. The hotel's location is convenient and central. The heating worked amazingly despite the intense cold outdoors, the bed was comfortable and the WiFi helped cope with the lack of sunlight. Noises were minimally heard, perhaps since the hotel was quite empty. The lady at the reception was super friendly and helpful
Absolute perfect location got lost finding it don't know why it was straight forward. Got bus from airport easy. Everyone was so friendly added bonus free tea coffee hot chocolate biscuits and make your own waffles what a bonus for free had with norways brown cheese and jam amazing. So quiet and warm. Bed sheets and towels included much better experience than a hotel just perfect def recommended shared bathroom and toilet so clean and private
Super experience staying at MelisHome Aurora Observatory! John is really flexible, and was so helpful in giving me and my partner lifts to and from here, even with short notice! The place itself has all you need, plus the added bonus of being away from Tromso city and away in the valleys, by the fjord means that you can step out and likely to see the northern lights - we saw them on our first night! A perfect stay, thank you so much John!
Excellent location, on the right side of the bridge. You are 5-10 minutes walk away from the meeting points of the bus tours you’ll probably take in Tromso. Having fully equipped kitchens available is a thing you’ll fully start to appreciate when you understand how pricey it is to eat out in Norway. Overall, I would call it a hostel. It has the feeling of a cabin in the mountains and it creates a nice community of travelers.
Hotel was in a great location to restaurants, shops, bars and pickup for excursions. The view from the breakfast room was incredible.
Though most of the reviews praised the breakfast for being the best in Norway, it had a wide variety of options available, but not all were great. Coffee was great.
Reception staff were friendly and accommodating.
Our host was very kind and helpful. This spot is nicely located out of the city and you can enjoy the peace and quiet there. An ideal spot to observe the northern lights. The kitchen is nicely equipped, you can use sauna or relax in the shared living room. Nice spot for travellers not focused on comfort but just the nice experience.
That we got our money back for the northern lights chasing tour when it got canceled because there was no chance to see it. It was 100% cloudy everywhere. And we asked for a double bed for the second part of our stay (we went to an other hotel in between) but they arranged a double bed immediatly for us.
Best location in town, right on the harbour. Airport bus drops off and picks up from outside the hotel. Can walk to most everywhere. Good breakfast buffet spread. In-room safe. Cozy beds. Get a superior room with harbour view. Warm showers. The superior room is a good size for two people.
Everything and everyone, the best location and the best staff, clean, great breakfast. Rooms are with amazing view.
We won’t forget the hospitality and the help of the front desk staff !! And if you are looking for a northern lights tour most of them start the tour from this Hotel
Nice hostel, unfortunately you have to share only one toilet and the shower with others, but the place, the price and the rooms were very ok and warm.
I ve found good people and I picked them up in my car to see the northern lights together.
I ve found only good guys
The house is beautiful and the landscape is even better! We stayed here for three nights and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights dancing above the house. Benedicte and here husband are very very kind, best accomodation ever!
Amazing location outside the main city centre. It really gives you the “northern experience”. We were able to see the northern lights from our cabin. The cabin itself is very pretty and adds a charm to the trip.
The hotel was very nice. The beds were exceptionally comfortable with quality sheets and blankets.
The staff were very friendly and gave some really good recommendations on activities and restaurants.
Location was great. Nice, clean, quiet and safe. It was everything I was looking for. The staff were kind and helpful. This hotel helped make my stay in tromso amazing
The location is so near to the airport. Stavros was so so friendly. The owner is arranging wonderful tours to chase the Northern lights with reasonable price.
Nice and clean. Very close to the airport and city centre is not far as well and easily accessible via bus or taxi. But stop is right in front of the hotel.
Very nice place! Lots of interesting tourists from all over europe. And nice friendly dog. Best hostel of its genre that i have been to in norway i think!
