I stayed 3 nigths in an igloo, and this was by far one of the best experiences I have had in my life. I felt in love with the magic of the North. This place is out of the tourists track. Freedom, calm, peace and respect for the nature all managed by passionate and authetic viking familly. This place is super romantic, come with your lover if you can. I enjoyed it a lot alone too. Nature: wild nature, deep forest, mountains, rivers, white fresh snow, huge open spaces, blue sky full star and full moon make it even more speciail. I watched some light signs of Auroras borealis as well. I saw mooses and other animals around. The igloo: sleeping in the midle of nature where there is just a peaceful silent and the sky over your head is unique, all this being under your warm and big duvet feels just amazing.
Northern Norway hospitality and comfort : Odd-Knut took good care of me. The guest house is cosy and made in a traditional norwegian way by Odd-NKnut himself. It gave the very fast the feeling of being home. Full equiped kitchen and acces to internet too and all you need to work as well. You can socilalize with other guest and the friendly locals too. Traditonal gastronomy : I have reeinder meat and king crab during the dinner. Breaskfast was self-service but I got some typical salmon and eggs. You can have sweet ot salty. Most products are produce locally. Smoked salmon or meat, vegetables and more.
Acces to the area : The nearest airport is Bardufoss Airport, 40 km from Skjærhaugen resort. From there I took a gratis bus and then I was pick up at the center of the village small village Øverbygd by Odd-Knut, 10min. It is only about 2 hours drive from Tromso.
I also spent time outdoors dong snow shoes, hiking a bit and used the sauna; and also inside my igloo meditating, reading, or just relaxing during the day and night. I also visited the Tromsø ice domes, a wonderful hotel with ice sculptures. All in all, I highly recommend you Skjærhaugen resort.
