What an absolute unexpected gem of a city! Perfect size, perfect amount of nightlife (i.e. not too much), perfect food (including the lovely cheeses), and perfect atmosphere. At first glance, you might think it's just another Dutch town with pretty architecture and lots of bikes, but it punches well above its weight. In fact, I would say it may be one of my favourite places in Europe. Will be going back! (The only problem is that it's not too easy to get too... no rose without thorns, but it's worth it!)

Must rank about 30th among Holland's Prettiest/Most Interesting towns and certainly not worth travelling to the end of the country to visit. Dynamic but kitschy art museum. The boat tour of the canals we took around the old town centre was as dull as ditchwater

A great historical city with lots of students and a great University. Charming if you has enough of the over-touristy Amsterdam, their Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum. Enjoy a charming, explorable city were they have lots to share and see.

Location and friendly employees. Breakfast was really good. The timing is perfect and also the choices of the menu. The only recommendation of change I will suggest is to make more channels for the guests to choose. Thank you

Its one of the best cities in The Netherlands, but not manay people know it. Kind of small Amsterdam. Old buildings, city center surrounded by a canal and brdiges. Great shopping, eating drinking. Pub, bars Clubs stay open to the morning light (longest in the Netherlands). lots of good student activity. Great museums as well.
Breakfast was lovely, good variety and plenty of each option it seemed. The room itself was very dated but not unclean or uncomfortable, quite adequate for our needs. The location was amazing, right in the city centre, though it was a little hard to find the parking if you’ve never driven in the city before, or aren’t used to driving in the Netherlands in general. The staff are so friendly, helpful and really the soul of this hotel. It would have gotten a lesser rating without them.
Brand new hotel in the middle of the city. The hotel is very contemporary and nicely decorated. The staff at front desk, restaurant and bakery are very hospitable. The first morning we missed breakfast so ordered some (freshly made) sandwiches at the bakery. In the evening we had a superb meal with Dutch ingredients/recipes with a modern twist. We will surely book this hotel for our next stay in Groningen.
The location of the Mercure Hotel Groningen Martiniplaza is very close to the city center and well connected to the autobahn. That being said, it was not noisy at all. The room and bathroom were a decent size. Everything was modern and clean. We really enjoyed our stay at this facility!
Excellent location in heart of the old city centre; perfect for those needing to be close to the university. The hotel has a lovely restaurant Blume which I highly recommend to try before leaving. Will definitely stay here again.
