Very small town, basically passthrough. The information centre was helpful. There was a coffee shop where we picked up coffees on the first day. On the second day she said she had none. The Chicken rock was super to see especially if you drove around to the lookout point on the hill.

Hienghene offers idyllic scenery, fantastic rock formations and great sunsets. We arrived there from the North, crossing the river via the punt ferry, which was an interesting experience. The town is very small, with few facillities outside of Koulnoue Village, but I would highly recommend leaving Noumea to drive around Le Grande Terre, to experience isolation and beautiful landscapes. There is very little traffic, and easy driving, although you would need to feel comfortable being away from it all.
