Alor Star is a pleasant regional centre with some fine public buildings and an interesting old quarter. The open space in the centre of town with the Zahir mosque on one side and various royal buildings and museums on the other provides some excellent photo opportunities. There is a surprising amount of street art, some of it very good, and a pleasant canal-side walk starting in the centre of town. I came across an excellent night food market with stalls offering a range of local and international dishes.
The Kedah Paddy Museum is billed as one of the attractions of Alor Setar, but I found it a bit disappointing. It is a long way out of town; if you don't have your own transport, getting a taxi or Grab back to the centre could be a lottery.

We enjoyed our lunch at Gulai Temenung Tok Piah Claypot located at Kuala Kedah. Restoran Kak Milah Jitra Kedah has variety of dishes for lunch with gulai ikan keli and ikan bakar. We had our dinner at Man & Milah Medan Selera Ikan Bakar which also located at Jitra, Kedah

I like to stay in Alor Setar because there is so many interesting place to go and explore. The food is so delicious and cheap. the pupils so kind and helpfull. The paddy view is so nice and i will come back again.

Delicious local food. Fresh seafood, Hot & spicy is my favourite especially sambal belacan. perghh powerfull!!
Shopping place - Padang Besar about 1.5km from Alor Setar, Pekan Rabu & Tanjung Dawai (ikan bilis,ikan masin,belacan,pekasam,etc)
Tips : Do the listing of place and make a plan before you go there, sometimes mr google maps will bring you to unexpected way. its will bring you 5 to 6km sawah padi small road (just enough 1 car size) and you will be panic in the paddy bendang. :) :)

What an amazing homestay! It was beautiful and clean, perfectly presented with little extras that were not expected. The host went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. She communicated promptly and was very friendly. We would absolutely stay again and recommend this homestay to anyone going to Alor Setar. It will not disappoint!! Best homestay we stayed at whilst in Malaysia….
I like everything from checking in to the hotel room and location. The ladies at the checking in counter was amazing and had amazing hospitality. They were nice. Everything went smoothly and the hotel room is big and cosy. Given level 13, i had the beet view of Alor Setar. It was lovely and wonderful
ROOM is most important for us the stay, the room bad sheet have smelly and pillow also.
BATHROOM the wall got black colour mold on the wall , Clogged drain.
Rome size and price is ok but please renovate and hotel room and facilities.

Clean, comfortable and spacious...worth the money. Lots of eateries in front of the hotel (morning till night), convenient stores, bank, 7-11and self service laundry are in the same rows with the hotel.
The price of this hotel: comparable with other budget hotel, but you cannot get swimming pool & spacious room. Indeed, the room was very basic but if it's just for a short stay, no big deal.
Good location. Easy walkable access to Aman Central Shopping Mall. 2 EV charging bays for hotel guests. Sheltered and non sheltered parking. Breakfast is decent.
