Ulleung is a beautiful, rugged volcanic island about 60 miles off the east coast with geology, plants, and food quite different from mainland Korea. Getting reliable information about places on the island to visit was a hassle--no detailed information available even from the tourist kiosk--but we really enjoyed the day trips that we took and the people are very friendly. Some ability to speak Korean is almost a requirement for a successful visit.
