Staff very attentive and very hospitable. Food is excellent. Property very well maintained and exude a tranquil charm as it’s located next to the river. Love the onsen spa pool. I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed.
The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack.
I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

In Gero itself there are just a few sights to go to. However you can easily stay there to discover Takayama or other close sights. Also there are every hot springs were you can either dip in your feet, hands or just jump in with whole body.
The in-room onsen bath was great. The room was extra large with a separate sitting area with chairs and table and there was an outdoor balcony. The hotel staff briefed us on arrival about the room accommodations and facilities in the complex, as well as noted our preferences for when the room was to be prepared for the evening and in the morning. All the staff who spoke English were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
Views from the room of the river, bridge and mountains were so scenic.
Room was average.
Dinner and breakfast were Kaiseki style, served in our room by a male Japanese speaking staff who took the trouble to Google translate all the different dishes to English. He was very polite.
Driver who drove us to the train station on the day of check out was extremely accommodating n helpful.
The ladies' public onsen .. The Rose Bath was quite nice but with very few flowers. Different from the photo in the hotel website with lots of flowers.
The guesthouse is occupied by an elderly couple. Even if the communication was a bit difficult (They speak little english and I speak little japanese) they were always very kind and helpful. A free little breakfast was included every morning, and they washed and dried my clothes for me free of charge.
All in all a very warm and welcoming service.
Loved everything!!! We had a lady from Napal that was our room attendant. She was absolutely wonderful and very kind. She set up our meals and helped us to understand hotel. All staff were wonderful. This town is so cool to visit. Next time we will come in summer to visit other little mountain towns nearby. Make sure you get the hot pudding!!!
It was a 2 minute walk from the station. Our host was very helpful with allowing us to leave our luggage there earlier in the day before we checked in and he made good recommendations on where to visit. We got the onsen pass ♨️ and where able to enjoy some very relaxing soaking.
The facility was very quiet and a great value for our money.
Friendly staff who did their best to delight guests. They informed us of fireworks and we caught it from the hotel garden. That was a nice surprise! The garden is lovely too. I also enjoyed both the public outdoor onsen and private bath (cypress onsen) . Very relaxing.
This place was exceptional. The owners were the kindest people we have met in Japan so far. Staying in their property was great to experience a traditional Japanese style house. Their hospitality was truly something I haven't experienced before.
Myuki-san and her family and staff were so helpful and accommodating. The onsen was lovely, witth both outdoor and indoor pools at different temperatures. Japanese breakfast was exceptional and beautifully presented, likewise full dinner.
The location is great. Super close to the tourist spots, can walk to anywhere.
The public onsens were fantastic, it has 3 different types / places of onsens in the hotel. The environment and quality of spring water were unforgettable.
Conveniently located; large onsen pool with outdoor section; superb Japanese style dinner and breakfast; yukata provided was very comfortable to wear; polite staff; table tennis facility; free shuttle bus and taxi service
The hotel is really cozy and comfortable. The hostess is kind to us and offers us a drive to the station. The onsen is great and breakfast is great. We had a great time here and will come here again next time!
The dinner was excellent. The Hida beef was fantastic. The private onsen in the hotel room was great. The Futon beds were comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel shuttle bus was convenient.
I really enjoyed the possibility to book a private onsen, the room was very clean and comfy with a private bathroom, at walking distance from the train station
Located along Gero onsen town with easy access to the main attractions. Staff was friendly and approachable. The hotel even has a private onsen for guests!!!
