The host is extremely friendly and will try to talk to you in English if you don't understand Japanese. He invited me to join him for breakfast and on one of the days, had some neighbours come over for a meal together.
It is the Japanese countryside, so knowing Japanese is very helpful but the host really tries to make the experience enjoyable!

It was like staying in a film set but all authentic. The residence was built in a traditional way and well maintained. Very helpful staff and appreciated the pick up service from the station. Very attractive small provincial town with good selection of restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Ozu is a small city, I think one day is enough to see the main places. They have an information center for tourists right at the train station, where you can get a map pin pointing the main touristic places. And they can speak English at the information center. I was there for two days, but one day I went to Uchiko (20 minutes by train).
