Staying was a truly remarkable experience. Situated near the Biwa Lake and just a short distance from Kyoto, this hotel offers the perfect blend of convenience and tranquility.
One of the standout features of the Otsu Prince Hotel is the spaciousness of its rooms. Unlike many hotels in Japan, which often have compact rooms, the Otsu Prince Hotel provides ample space for relaxation and comfort. Whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or with family, you'll appreciate the generous room size that allows for a more comfortable stay.
The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the breathtaking view of Biwa Lake from my room. Waking up to the sight of Japan's largest freshwater lake was a rejuvenating experience. The large windows in the rooms ensure you get an unobstructed view of the shimmering waters and surroundings. Adding a magical touch to your stay, making it truly unforgettable.
Despite its peaceful location by Biwa Lake, the Otsu Prince Hotel is conveniently close to Kyoto. It's an ideal base for exploring the historic and cultural attractions of Kyoto while enjoying a quieter, more relaxed setting at the end of the day.

From my perspective, there wasn't much to do within a mile walk of the property.
Only one restaurant off site in that mile two convenience stores and if you walk a bit further a pretty mellow "redlight" district

Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh.
Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh. But go to have a walk behind the hotel. The countryside is like a Miyazaki movie getting real ! You can go near from there : temples, beach, ski station with incredible view… But with the hotel’s shuttle and the station you have Kyoto, very near, Nara, Osaka a little farther. You’ve got all Kansaï by JR… A good tip : when you go to the station to Shirahige shrine, don’t take bus but walk with GPS. The way is just incredible with village, other shrines so quiet and monkey looking at you from the forest behind rice fields…

Otsu, located near Kyoto, is another treasure place in Japan. Faced to Biwa lake it has many historical monument and cultural hotspots. In summer the big firework event is so famous to attract many people. In Biwako Hall many world class concerts and plays are performed. Local fishes and sakes are another charm for visitors. Once you come here you cannot help missing this unforgettable city.

At first I thought I might be bored but there’s so much to do! It’s a little difficult to travel from place to place; lots of walking. But there’s lots of history, friendly people, and beautiful nature.

Otsu is a great location to get away from the city life of Japan. It is quite peaceful here and is located next to a large lake (lake biwa) which is perfect for fishing enthusiasts. Overall, this location is clean and quiet, different from the bustling cities of Japan and i would recommend this place to those who enjoy a scenic walk and a calm environment.

Beautiful spot near the lake.
Beautiful spot near the lake. Perfect for those that want to stay a little out of the hustle and bussle, in perhaps a bigger / better value for money hotel, but still within close proximity to Kyoto.
Good capsule with newer style capsules, a large-ish lounge to eat and drink and do whatever that also has many modern manga (I like pre 1980s ones myself), location right at the station is my favorite so no getting lost. Best part is that the clientele were all Japanese and know the drill, so no common problems of capsules in places like Tokyo and Osaka with usually foreigners making loud noise/talking or watching phone without headphones in the capsules, leaving giant luggage in the corridor, making a general mess…
It was an unforgettable trip. I am so happy to book this lodge on booking.com. I enjoyed staying at this Japanese Temple lodge. The food is beautiful and tasty, and the service is extraordinarily good. The most amazing thing is we did sleep with the national treasures.. ( the butsuma and the ancient Biwa. Thanks for the world-class hospitality. Mr. Tazoe offered more than the service itself. We love Japan, and we will come back next year!
Relaxing and beautiful environment. Private onsen room had a gorgeous view of the lake and the onsen itself was very refreshing. The staff makes you feel very welcomed and they take good care of you. The traditional Japanese style rooms were spacious and comfortable. Easy access to the ryokan from the train station via the shuttle bus they provide. Would come back anytime!
The included breakfast and dinner was a delicious, visually amazing traditional Japanese spread. This place is a must for anyone wishing to get the authentic ryokan experience, though you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone a bit to wear the provided yukata and go to the public bath. Easy transit to Kyoto means you can stay outside the city on your visit.
Yuzanso is a beautiful Ryokan with a view over lake Biwa. The rooms are great and have a beautiful view over Lake Otsu from the bathtub in the room.
The best thing about Yuzansou is that they offer halal options to Muslim travelers, one of the only Ryokans in Japan. So now even Muslims can get the full japanese ryokan experience.
Just amazing - dinner and breakfast served exceptionally well in a private room. Onsen bath experience is awesome. We switched over to this hotel due to online positive reviews. Would love to come back again every time we visit Kyoto. 20 min train ride out to the bay area, but worth it.
Don’t hesitate to book this place if you’re going to Otsu. The hotel is beautifully designed - bringing out historic features with modern touches. The free walking tour (in English) was so, so interesting. We didn’t book the breakfast but the welcome treat was delicious!
The innkeeper is an artist and she acts as your surrogate mother while you are here. Be sure to ask for room 203 which is set up as a traditional Japanese living room. She and her husband got up in the middle of the night to see me off. I couldn't recommend more highly.
breakfast was ok, quality was good and had western options and good japanese food. was well run. beds were very comfortable (not hard). reception had very little english but no problem communicating despite this and everything went very smooth
It has a very retro feels of the late 80 and early 90 infrastructure. The room was a fusion of old and new and it really shows. Very authentic Japanese experience in a field of other competitive hotels around Lake Biwa area
