The staff were really attentive. The view was exceptional. The price was good value. There was even a free shuttle bus that goes to the hotel every 15 mins or so. Honestly, full marks!

From my perspective, there wasn't much to do within a mile walk of the property.
Only one restaurant off site in that mile two convenience stores and if you walk a bit further a pretty mellow "redlight" district

Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh.
Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh. But go to have a walk behind the hotel. The countryside is like a Miyazaki movie getting real ! You can go near from there : temples, beach, ski station with incredible view… But with the hotel’s shuttle and the station you have Kyoto, very near, Nara, Osaka a little farther. You’ve got all Kansaï by JR… A good tip : when you go to the station to Shirahige shrine, don’t take bus but walk with GPS. The way is just incredible with village, other shrines so quiet and monkey looking at you from the forest behind rice fields…

Otsu, located near Kyoto, is another treasure place in Japan. Faced to Biwa lake it has many historical monument and cultural hotspots. In summer the big firework event is so famous to attract many people. In Biwako Hall many world class concerts and plays are performed. Local fishes and sakes are another charm for visitors. Once you come here you cannot help missing this unforgettable city.

At first I thought I might be bored but there’s so much to do! It’s a little difficult to travel from place to place; lots of walking. But there’s lots of history, friendly people, and beautiful nature.

Otsu is a great location to get away from the city life of Japan. It is quite peaceful here and is located next to a large lake (lake biwa) which is perfect for fishing enthusiasts. Overall, this location is clean and quiet, different from the bustling cities of Japan and i would recommend this place to those who enjoy a scenic walk and a calm environment.

Beautiful spot near the lake.
Beautiful spot near the lake. Perfect for those that want to stay a little out of the hustle and bussle, in perhaps a bigger / better value for money hotel, but still within close proximity to Kyoto.
It was an unforgettable trip. I am so happy to book this lodge on booking.com. I enjoyed staying at this Japanese Temple lodge. The food is beautiful and tasty, and the service is extraordinarily good. The most amazing thing is we did sleep with the national treasures.. ( the butsuma and the ancient Biwa. Thanks for the world-class hospitality. Mr. Tazoe offered more than the service itself. We love Japan, and we will come back next year!
Very clean and comfortable to stay. They provide various amenities including pajamas and moisturiser cream, that may be common in accommodations in Japan but I didn’t expect they would provide it in a capsule hotel. The staff are really friendly and helpful. They would tell you good places to visit in Shiga prefecture.
The breakfast was good and definitely worth the price.
We like how the beds were elevated , so we could put our luggages underneath the bed frame. That gives much more space to walk around in the room. The bathroom size is bigger than most Japanese hotel. Which is good 👍 maybe it is because we booked a triple room also. Not sure a standard room comes with same size of bathroom or not.
It was our first onsen experience and it was superb!
You have a very great view of the lake. Room is very spacious.
It's our first time as well to stay at a traditional Japanese room, wear yukata and it was a great experience.
Excellent dinner and breakfast.
They can pick you up at the train station which is very convenient.
Kaiseki dinner and breakfast included with our stay was innovative! The room was beautiful (though in our room there was no temp control so a bit hot for our comfort). Other rooms had mini splits where there is adjustable temperature. The hotel was beautiful and amenities were outstanding. Staff was lovely.
General experience, Excellent. I loved every details of this hotel, food, hot spring, service and it's room. We spent entire day in the hotel and could not get enough. The dinner and breakfast is not cheap but definitely worth a try, the most delicate food I have in Japan during this journey.
Gorgeously remodeled traditional inn with all the modern comforts and stylish mid century modern furniture. Very hospitable staff who speak English and have helpful recommendations. Their efforts to revitalize the Ōtsu community are laudable.
Real way of Japanese life with an Onsen for bathroom with Japanese people, living like them. Eating exactly like them. Wearing the yukata. The shuttle to go to the station, the vintage of the hotel, the free power plate. I want to go back.
Large and clean Japanese style room, very cozy and well equipped common space kitchen/ living room with a great terrace. Location just a few steps from the lake.
Toilets, showers and bath all super clean.
This was a hidden treasure. I was very happy to have found this place. Wonderful hosts, very welcoming and caring, everything very clean and newly renovated. Authentic Japanese. Absolutely wonderful!
Nice room with a great view. The onsen was very nice as well. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Great location near the lake, train stations and restaurants.
The staff is really nice, helped us shipping luggage to the next hotel. Although a bit far from Kyoto, it's easy to reach and the neighborhood is nice.
