The staff , the vibe , the decor . One find peace and comfort, like an oasis in the city. It was a beautiful and wonderful surprise to see deers coming to the hotel gardens. They walked around in the garden and ate some of the flowers and grass in the morning. We were able to get so close to them and it felt so peaceful inside the hotel. The hotel was renovated from a century-old sake production place, it has its charm and traditional vibe in modern comfort that the other 4 stars hotels can't compare. If our time and budget allow, I would definitely go back again in Nara.

Amazing location for access to old town Nara and parks. Perfect synergy with built in tourism office with cultural activities and crafts for kids. Friendly helpful staff. It was super easy for us as native English speakers as lots of signage and communications in English as well.

This place is bonkers! Considering similar rooms in Nara were much more expensive during the time we stayed there, we expected much less. Also, the description and photos at that time didn't look like a legit place. How wrong we were!
This place is absolutely gorgeous! Not only that, but it's also huuuge! If you travel with a group of 4 friends, you'll fit there at ease. That said, it's a lovely place for couples and for engagements. ;)

The deer roaming freely was amazing. The hub of the town was vibrant. The big Buddha temple was very interesting but I would recommend using a guide. I fell due to uneven loose paver and some were very slippery when wet. Night street lighting was poor tbh. Over all a nice place to visit.

I liked best out hotel, ryokan that accepted tattoos in the public onsen and also had a private bathroom, with an amazing room overall.
The deers are quite agressive, not attacking people but stealing anything they can and munching on your clothes if they smell food on you. Still it was a very interesting experience. The crafts museum was just a small shop, but the games museum was super interactive and fun, with very friendly staff. Both of those were free and close by. In Nara everything is pretty close, walking distance, and the streets are very beautiful with traditional architecture.

As the major cities in Japan become larger and more...
As the major cities in Japan become larger and more identical to each other, they also become a little difficult for tourists to manage easily and feel at home in. But Nara has retained the feel it had when I was last there, half a century ago. Back then I said it was the favourite city, along with Kyoto, of any I visited in Japan. Right now I say it is STILL my favourite city, and in the 21st century it has left Kyoto well behind. If I were spending a week in the Kansai area, I would base myself in Nara in preference to Osaka or any of the "majors", and do day trips everywhere else. You will save on accommodation, for a start!

The Todaiji temple and the Kofuku-ji Buddhist temple next to...
The Todaiji temple and the Kofuku-ji Buddhist temple next to it are a must-see. The museum was okay. The Isui-en Wisteria garden was okay too but it was too crowded because the flowers were in bloom. There are a number of restaurants and cafes on the street from the Nara Station to Nara Park.
Walking from Hotel Nikko/Nara Station to Nara Park and walking to all the attractions nearby was very tiring. So, I may recommend taking the bus on the way back, if possible. Also, it suddenly started raining in the afternoon and luckily, I had an umbrella with me.
I wished I had more time to see some of the other attractions outside of the Nara Park.

This was the most welcome I felt of our entire trip.
This was the most welcome I felt of our entire trip. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. If you could choose any hotel for your vacation this has to be the one because it will be your favorite. The food and staff were my favorites. The room was clean and comfy and they even had buckwheat pillows!

The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds are massed, all trying to impress deer with the same rice crackers that everyone else is trying to feed them, then pick a direction and walk away from them. There is so much more to the park: primeval forests, ancient stone pathways leading to temples and small villages older than most of our own countries, hidden pockets of lost time. It is hard to explain how it feels to not have another human being in sight, finding yourself passing stone idols carved by people hundreds of years ago, only to see a deer eating moss from the base of said idol that stops chewing to literally bow to you. Of course you bow back and scramble in your bag for some kind of treat to offer your new best friend (I recommend unsalted pretzel sticks, the deer hate plain rice crackers as much as we do at this point) and then having it gently eat from the palm of your hand, before you both again swap polite bows and go on your merry way. Then you hear a crow sing from the ancient forest behind you, and you just know: this is pretty cool.
The location was superb (just next door Nara JR Station, next to bus station, 7Eleven downstair, and located midcity), we got upgraded room, they have free cocktail bar and coffee, also onsen (hotwater spring), the breakfast was excellent only for 1000 yen, the room is clean and super spacious, the amenities are complete, the reception speaks good English and very polite, the check-in and check-out process were smooth (especially c/o because we only need to put magnet sign at the door). Our overall experience was awesome!
Great location for a hotel, and the bakery aspect was definitely cute. Really easy to get to from Nara train station, the rooms were clean and comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, the toast was delicious! The staff were all incredibly kind and welcoming, and even recommended some cool things to see in Nara while we were there. They also held our luggage for us after check out which was very nice to explore Nara some more. Would recommend this hotel to others.
Our stay at ANDO HOTEL NARA was exceptional. This property is the perfect mix between beautiful facilities, amazing food and great service. The staff was very lovely and attentive and did everything to make our stay perfect. The food at the restaurant was some of the best food we had during our trip in Japan. It's definitely worth booking the panoramic view rooms that offer a beautiful view over the city.
Such a gorgeous hotel! Our room was lovely, we had our own private hot onsen on the balcony and it was nice to sleep in traditional Japanese beds. The hotel’s onsen is perfect for relaxing after a long day of sight seeing, and the staff are very sweet and helpful. It’s in a great location, within walking distance from of landmarks in Nara.
Vintage and historical hotel where a lot of famous people stayed. Good location (inside of Nara park). Can see deers right behind the hotel. The reception staff is very helpful who recommended us a good local Shabu Shabu restaurant and also helped us to make a reservation. That is one of the best dinner I had in Japan.
The location was perfect; a 20 min walk to Nara Park and all the attractions, and a 5 minute walk to the train station. The staff were possibly the most friendly and helpful I’ve ever experienced. Would recommend this hotel to anyone considering an overnight stay in Nara.
right on top of the Nara train station, well connected to the ticketing counter and board the train. there are plenty options of restaurants right below the hotel operated to midnight and a supermarket closed at 12am. location and amenities is superb, room are decent size
It's probably one of the best hotels in Nara.
It's right beside the train station and a 15-minute walk from the park
The onsen was amazing and was open until midnight to relax after a big walking day.
The beds were super comfortable.
Great value for money..
Great traditional Japanese hotel. A little out of date but that is what tradition is about. Onsen was very nice. Both dinner and breakfast is great. The location is a little far for most Nara tourist sites but hotel provides shuttle from/to train station.
The property was beautiful as well as our room itself! Our private onsen was incredible. Really close to the Nara Deer Park and temples and shrines to explore. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance too.
The location is just perfect to walk around Nara Park and other famous spots. Room was pretty big especially compared to other hotels in Japan! Everything is clean! I`d love to stay here again someday :)
Location was right next to the JR line, easy to to from Nara park via bus. The onsen was lovely and the ramen was just fantastic as a late night snack. The hotel was clean and nicely appointed.
Great location, walking distance to Nara park and shopping/food district. The hotel is clean and modern, beds were comfortable, shower had great temperature and pressure. We enjoyed our stay
Excellent location being adjacent to JR Nara Station.
Huge selection of choices for breakfast .
All the hotel employees I encountered were courteous, friendly and efficient.
Brilliant location, very comfortable hotel room. Really quiet and slept very well. Nice bath in the room was a plus. Walking distance to Kintetsu Nara & Nara Park!
