We loved this property - a slice of luxury. Eve thing was perfect, clean and well thought out. We loved the dinner, the massage chair and only wish we could have stayed longer.

The location is fantastic, very close to the Itsukushima Shrine and the Tori gate. All the other main activities and points of interest can also be reached in a matter of minutes. Service was great, as the staff is very kind, welcoming and the free shuttle service from the ferry port to the hotel was very much appreciated. The room was very comfortable and the wifi is good. Also the onsen is a nice addition.

The location near the ferry was exceptional. The room we stayed in was traditional with tattami and the bed on the floor with a balcony. It was romantic and nice.

We liked everything. The staff was really friendly and helpful, the rooms and the toilets were clean. They also provide meals because eating in Miyajima in the evening is not easy. You can also book a modern private bath for own use for 1 or 2 people free of charge and a japanese one for 500 yen. Highly recommended
Reopened in April 2014 after renovations, Miyajima Morinoyado offers comfortable guest rooms and a spacious public bath.

When we arrived there were deers chilling right in front of the ryokan...
It's a bit isolated from the city, which makes it a quiet spot, easy to go hiking from.
The public bath has a big window, I went there late at night, I was the only one, with the lights illuminating the trees it was a really peaceful experience.
Great traditional japanese breakfast, very copious.
There is a small souvenir shop in the lobby.
You can really get the ryokan experience here. And for a ryokan in Miyajima it's not that expensive!

This was a very pleasant change from our hotel rooms in the rest of Japan. This self-catering apartment offered a set of rooms which were very spacious with lots of storage. Beds were really comfortable with clean crisp linen. There were plenty of towels available in the bathroom, which in addition to a bathtub and wet-room style shower, also had a washer-dryer for guest use (with helpful instructions in English which we greatly appreciated!). There is a lounge with two L-shaped sofas, a coffee table and TV which gave us a nice space to relax in. There is an excellent, well-appointed kitchen with a large table that was very useful. Our host was very responsive to requests for information and generally very friendly and made sure we were all ok and we did not need anything. The location is excellent, only a few hundred meters from the ferry terminal and within easy reach of the Great Torii gate and numerous shops and restaurants.

Superb staff service and attitude. Food was excellent. The Onsen next door was a bonus. The Dinner was amazing and pushed our boundaries (in a good way) a little.

A full day on Miyajima is a good amount of time to explore this pretty island. Catch the 2 stage gondolier up Mount Misen (or climb the trail if you're feeling active) and explore the trails, the ancient shrines and temples and then admire the views at the top. Once back down again, the beachfront is picturesque and nice to wander along admiring the island at low tide.

It is a magic island where I would spend at least a couple of full days by sleeping in an authentic hotel with futon beds. If you can, i recommend to do the hiking of the main mountain (not difficult at all)

If you are an elderly Japanese teetotaller who likes simple food, an onsen and beautiful views this is the place for you!
If however, you also like your hotel to be multi generational, with a nice bar, good food and a welcoming atmosphere, this is definitely not the hotel for you.

We stayed 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. We took one whole day climbing the mountain, which was great but time consuming, so we ended up not seeing everything on our list. Keep in mind that the restaurants and bars close by 7 or 8 pm because all of the tourists leave the island around 5:30 pm. You really get to enjoy the beautiful island in peace and quiet in the morning and evening before the boats of tourists arrive. It was our favorite place we visited in Japan!

Miyajima Villa was the perfect escape!
Miyajima Villa was the perfect escape! Friendly, professional staff assisted us to get settled, offering umbrellas for the rain, assistance on getting around the Island, etc. The hotel even offers Onsen clothing and many other amenities for their guests! The hotel is conveniently located just steps from the ferry dock and the main streets to see the Tori Gate or the Itsukushima Shrine, the aquarium, to get to the Ropeway, trinket stores, ice cream stations, and so on. Our ocean room view had 2 oversized very comfy twin beds, a small couch, & desk. Loved the Toto Washlet in the toilet room! The bathtub while small was perfect for soaking after 5 hours of hiking. Lots of soft water and water pressure. The onsen (public bath) was just pure Heaven! :-) Sitting in the enclosed area in back of the hotel is just more of the escape and so worthwhile! :-)
Thankfully there was food available in the hotel (bakery, dinner, breakfast) because ALL food service in town STOPS AT 4:30pm! At least, it did while we were there. Our breakfast with Miyajima Villa was wonderful and very filling whether Japanese or American food.
High caution is advised if you plan to hike from the Ropeway, as we did. Trails are not well marked on all trails. However, the trail to the top of Mt Misen is well worthwhile! Hopefully, you are as fortunate as we were to see the Tori Gate at high & low tides as well as catching it at sunset, which brought out MANY PEOPLE. :-) :-) What a perfectly lovely island to spend some adventure time!
We stayed as a family of four in a combination of western and japanese style room for one night and had the traditional japanese dinner and breakfast. The kids weren't keen on the japanese style dinner and breakfast, however that was my fault for not ordering the kids meal options. As adults, we found the food to be delicious and very well presented.
The room was spacious and clean and the beds were very comfortable.
The staff were amazing....they were very attentive and helpful. Highly recommend the Miyajima Grand Hotel.

You can really get the ryokan experience here. And for a ryokan in Miyajima it's not that expensive!
The property is located in a lovely spot on Miyajima Island. Walkable to the busy waterfront area. It’s definitely old school but the room was clean. We stayed at Hotel Makoto for the ryokan experience. We were really excited when we returned after an evening out to find our beds prepared for us. I have to say, sleeping on the floor was uncomfortable but I was expecting that. There were more pads in the closet. The staff provided maps and info about the island. Very friendly and helpful.
This place is so sweet! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic with views of the sea and it looked like a traditional Japanese in on the inside. There is a bar downstairs and a grilled oyster stand right outside (which was very popular!). The location is great on Miyajima Island. This was my husband’s favorite place. There is a public bath as well for soaking, but we also had a private bath / shower in our room. I can’t wait to come back!
We were so happy that we booked this hotel. It was the perfect place for our first trip to Miyajima. The owner and his cat were very nice and welcoming. We had the traditional style room with a spectacular view over the city. The food was simple but very good (and vegan, which is hard to find on the island). The public spaces were cozy and very clean. When we go to Miyajima next time, we will definitely book here again.
Traditional ryokan that is a little tired. But the view was excellent, the private onsen is a nice touch, the staff is very nice. The dinner was okay but plentiful so couldn’t touch the last course of miso soup and eel on rice. The futons are very comfortable. Great location with the trails to Mt Misen right outside. The free baggage drop off at the ferry in the afternoon after an early check-out is a great service.
Located in serene and quiet location on Miyajima! surrounded by lush forest. Rooms felt like traditional Japanese ryokan. Was clean and staff were friendly. There is shuttle bus that can pick you up from the Miyajima station (had to use the pay phone to contact them which was easy). Onsen is public but was not crowded. Close walk to Itsukushima shrine as well as cable car up to top of mountain.
Amazing stay on Miyajima. This was the most pricey hotel of our trip and it was well worth it. The room was traditional with tatami and very comfortable futons. The Japanese dinner and breakfast were amazing. Plentiful dishes of fine quality, beautioful to look at and all delicious.
The staff were really nice and helpful too.
I highly recommend this place.
We had a wonderful 2-night stay here. The service from the staff was fantastic and they food they served for dinner and breakfast was delicious. It was a treat for us as Westerners to stay in this ryokan. I would definitely recommend a 2-night stay to experience Miyajima and the best the hotel has to offer.
Very nice hotel with extremely nice hosts willing to make the best out of your stay.
Typical Japanese style rooms with futon and nice public baths available to relax after a long day hiking and enjoying Miyajima. Definitely recommend
I liked all the terraces, book room, free beverages, and the onsen. I felt like I was getting a true Japanese ryokan experience. The front desk spoke just enough English (and had just enough English handouts) to explain everything.
The place and the magic that you can feel in this traditional places is just great if you want to experience a japanese stay. I would love to be back and to stay for more days, the island and the hotel arr highlights of my travel.
The staff were very helpful and we used the shuttle bus multiple times. The hotel was near a really lovely temple and I highly recommend staying overnight on Miyajima. The breakfast was good.
We enjoyed the elaborate dinners at the hotel very much. The room was very attractive. The onsen, the location and the ambiance were also very good. We really enjoyed exploring the island.
Exceptional full course Japanese meals with very attentive staff. Great view of Miyajima across the water. Shuttle service very convenient to transfer between train station and hotel.
I fully enjoyed the Ryokan experience from sleeping on a traditional Japanese set up to wearing the provided kimono to an excellent dinner and breakfast. The location was unbeatable.
Was located in quiet area of the island. Very friendly staff and was a fun experience staying in a ryokan and experiencing traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast.
The Hotel is literally next to the train and ferry station. Our room had a wonderful view of Miyajima. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was nice.
Location in a Miyajima, close to main interesting points, and the atmosphere of the hotel is great. Food is really authentic. Staff hospitality is superb.
