This hotel had a very professional feel to it, and the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. A very comfortable bed in a room with that extra bit of space that one so appreciates in Japan, both in the room itself and the bathroom. I'd happily stay again another time.

Good location, 10min walk from train station, 5mins walk to castle, 10mins walk to shops along Nakamachi and Nawate streets. 7/11 5mins walk. We stayed on the top floor, our room was clean, quiet, had a window that could open, aircon, comfy bed, good shower, mini fridge. View of mountains was lovely from window. Staff were friendly. Microwave and drinks vending machine on ground floor. 300Y washing machines. Hotel is new. We didn’t choose the breakfast option.

Beautiful town. Traditional Japanese experience but still easy to get around if you’re from overseas. Matsumoto castle was a highlight - you can climb to the top of the tower - great views and really well signed explaining the history. We had a volunteer guide show us around the castle for free and he explained a lot of history about the area. Wonderful experience.

In the city, the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum and the Matsumoto City Museum of Art are excellent. Renting a car from Toyota Car Rental for a drive to the Venus Line and the Utsukushigara Open Air Museum (sculpture park) was great.

Matsumoto castle was lovely to see at night.
Matsumoto castle was lovely to see at night. The Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art is permanent and the outside is gorgeous but the exhibit itself was disappointingly small compared to the one in Tokyo. My favourite is the temporary exhibit of the artworks of Yasuka Sudou, an artist who died young of cancer at the age of 30. Her works interplay light and darkness and are technically impressive and emotionally touching.

We stayed at Hotel Kagetsu which is just a few minutes walk from the castle. The castle is def worth a visit. If you go to the top there are very steep stairs. We ate at two local restaurants. I can recommend the tiny tonkatsu restaurant which is just 50m down the road from the hotel. A taxi from the station takes 10 mins and costs 1000 yen.

The castle is beautiful, the local shopping streets are lovely and had variety. The Matsumoto City Museum of Art is fantastic for Yayoi Kusama lovers.
A nice quiet city after the throng of Tokyo, slower paced.

Good place to stay for access to the mountains.
Good place to stay for access to the mountains. The town is small but has good facilities including some big shops. There are a few restaurants but many close early and some are not easily accessible for people who don’t speak Japanese
Nice location only 2 blocks from train/bus station. Entire hotel was quite spotless. Smaller but comfortable room with very comfortable bed. Love having refrigerator and tea kettle available. Breakfast buffet was extensive if perhaps more Japanese than Western options but food good. Staff very helpful, especially since I needed to store luggage for 2 days. Onsen baths wonderful!! No restaurant for dinner but plenty options nearby. They did offer snack of soba noodles late in evening which I didn't try.
The location is convenient. It is very close to the train station and bus terminal. Shopping malls, supermarkets, convenience stores and food shops are around. Take a 15-20 minute walk to Matsumoto jou, Nawate Street and Aeon Mall. Rooms and furniture are clean. The staff are polite. The self-check-in system is to be used easily and fast. Breakfast is simple but enough and tastes good. I have a good experience in this hotel.
I like that the host and staff are very accommodating even before we reach the property. There was even a personalized note welcoming us. It was nice to have a feel of a traditional Japanese house instead of the Western hotels. Plus, Matsumoto Castle grounds was literally just a minute walk away. The Metoba river was also within walking distance, so we enjoyed our hanami there on a quiet weekday morning before we left Matsumoto.
1. near to almost anywhere. you can walk to train station, matsumoto castle & art museum that displayed yayoi kusama's arts.
2. room was spacious and had washer & microwave.
3. bed and pillow were comfortable.
4. even though i did not try but they had in site onsen.
5. they also provided you with free drinks & light supper meal.
6. the breakfast menu was also various.
This hotel looked a little too old for my liking, but I booked at the last minute and the price was good. The location is where this place shines though, because it's right across the street from Matsumoto station, and also in walking distance to Matsumoto castle.
Though the room was a little old, it was clean and the check in service was very easy and friendly.
Very nice, quiet and modern hotel. Great beds and pillows, enough space, nice bathroom. Location is excellent, close to the Matsumoto Castle and restaurants and all. The hotel had no parking (we came by car), but there's a parking garage 1,5 street away. You can pay your parking ticket at the hotel. In the evening there was free icecream and noodles.
It’s right at the Matsumoto J R station and just 15-20’s minute walk to get to the Matsumoto castle. The room is quite good, with necessary equipments. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Tasty breakfast with big volume. They serve optional Japanese set meal or western style breakfast. Beef curry is good and you can eat as much as you like😄
Family friendly hotel. Excellent location, right across Matsumoto train station and bus terminal. Near to many restaurants and malls. Walking distance to Matsumoto castle and Nawate Shopping Street. Good selection of free beverage from 10AM to 10PM. Nice unblocked and serene view of the city and the northern alps from the restaurant.
Close to the station (castle exit), convenient stores not too far from the hotel, walking distance from Matsumoto castle (about 20 minutes).
The hotel is a bit old but really well maintained, staff are friendly and helpful. Shared bath is very nice :)
Coin laundry and dryer in the hotel.
Room for a single person is a very decent size
The hotel is a very short walk from the Matsumoto Station and is right downtown and convenient to shopping and restaurants and walking distance to the castle. The room was clean, the staff helpful and friendly, the wi-fi work well, and the breakfast buffet had a good selection. I had a good stay there and would stay there again.
The hotel was exceptionally clean and provided a traditional Japanese stay in Matsumoto. A good location, helpful staff, excellent Onsen and free all-day coffee, juices and free noodles at night! Pillows were single and hard but soft "European" ones are provided on request. I would recommend a stay here.
The hotel is within 5 -10 minutes from the train station. We walked to Matsumoto Castle and to shopping and restaurants. We were passing through for an early start to the Tanube Alpine Route. The staff was very helpful to arrange transfer of our luggage to our next hotel.
Handy location, close to train station, walking distance to the castle. Friendly, welcoming staff. Complimentary soft drinks in restaurant with great mountain view. Added bonus - the hotel allowed early check in, the only hotel to do so during our 3 week trip in Japan!
Loved the cleanliness, the room amenities (clothing steamer/dryer was cool), the proximity to subway...and the breakfast was the BEST of all the hotels we had stayed at while in Japan (a total of 7). Next time we go to Nagano, this is the hotel we will come back to!!
Located in a cute and tranquil neighborhood, walking distance to Matsumoto-cho. It is a fine and detail-oriented Japanese ryokan, I had a great stay here. The host/staff is wonderful! I would definitely re-visit Matsumoto and Hanare for a longer stay.
We stayed in a traditional Japanese room, which we all loved and was great for kids. Lovely onsen and breakfast in this beautiful hotel. Great staff and a fabulous location in the older part of town. We loved Matsumoto, was a gorgeous town!
The food was an amazing experience - definitely the best food we had at a Ryokan in Japan. Location was perfect - best area of town and only a short walk from the station. High value for money.
We came for our honeymoon & we had the best time at Fukashisho.
I wish we had another night there.
The hospitality was 10/10.
My favorite place from all the hotels & ryokans in Japan.
