Fantastic smart and uniformed staff were always pleased to welcome you and help you even if they didn’t always understand the request at first. The shuttle transfers to the station arrived lightning quick and were an unexpected and appreciated service. The room was large and well-appointed with lots of different lighting options. Breakfast had a wide choice and well-presented.

We had 2 nights in Matsumoto and experienced, an excellent grand sushi master in action (delicious food, quaint authentic restaurant), Matsumoto castle at night is glorious, Castle tour and Samari experience with a personal guide was fabulous and bicycling around this lovely city to leisurely enjoy the sights and other attractions the city offers. Everything thing is within a 5-20min ride from Matsumoto Castle that we wanted to experience.

Beautiful town.
Beautiful town. Traditional Japanese experience but still easy to get around if you’re from overseas. Matsumoto castle was a highlight - you can climb to the top of the tower - great views and really well signed explaining the history. We had a volunteer guide show us around the castle for free and he explained a lot of history about the area. Wonderful experience.

In the city, the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum and the Matsumoto City Museum of Art are excellent. Renting a car from Toyota Car Rental for a drive to the Venus Line and the Utsukushigara Open Air Museum (sculpture park) was great.

Matsumoto castle was lovely to see at night.
Matsumoto castle was lovely to see at night. The Yayoi Kusama exhibition at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art is permanent and the outside is gorgeous but the exhibit itself was disappointingly small compared to the one in Tokyo. My favourite is the temporary exhibit of the artworks of Yasuka Sudou, an artist who died young of cancer at the age of 30. Her works interplay light and darkness and are technically impressive and emotionally touching.

We stayed at Hotel Kagetsu which is just a few minutes walk...
We stayed at Hotel Kagetsu which is just a few minutes walk from the castle. The castle is def worth a visit. If you go to the top there are very steep stairs. We ate at two local restaurants. I can recommend the tiny tonkatsu restaurant which is just 50m down the road from the hotel. A taxi from the station takes 10 mins and costs 1000 yen.
We had a great stay in a very comfortable and clean Ryokan.
The hosts are extremely friendly and advised us on places to eat and organised a ride back to the train station for our group.
The Ryokan is easily accessed by a short taxi ride from the Matsumoto train station.
A fantastic breakfast was prepared by our hosts !

The hotel's location is very good, a short walk from both the train and bus stations and not far from Matsumoto Castle and several museums. Service was friendly, and about as efficient as one would expect from a rather busy "business" hotel with its crowded breakfast area and check-in/check-out crush.
VERY Friendly staff. Directly opposite station and easy walk to Matsumoto Castle. I left a charging cable in the room and when I contacted the hotel they immediately replied that the found it and held it at reception until I could return 4 days later
Very nice hotel close to the Matsumoto train station. The room was rather small but had a lot of hangers and smart solutions which we could use for our clothes. We also liked the onsen in the hotel very much.
Very close to the railway station and the main bus stop, the hotel is conveniently located for stop over travelers. Main restaurant options close by and Matsumoto castle just 10-15 min walk away
