Tasty hastu-gatsuo and beautiful botanical garden! Makino botanical garden is within 15 minutes by car from the central Kochi. It has its own beauty even in winter, but the beauty comes in the other seasons. Hirome Market is also one of the must-go spots. The staff is friendly and the sashimi there is absolutely tasty -turist-price, though.

the tourist train from Kochi is higly recommended, it is better to self driving for visiting Kochi as we found that the schedule of bus travelling around is limited and not too frequet , it would be great if there is more bike rental shop as we visited a little area Tosa and we found that there was no rental shop for bicycles , so disappointed.

Probably very frequently overlooked city in Shikoku, it was definitely worth a visit. Firstly, the city center is very walkable, of course, the main highlight of the city is the castle. It is one of the smaller castles in the country, but the surrounding grounds are open to public 24 hours a day, which, of course, gave me an option to visit it during a nice early morning weather, without the crowds and everything connected with them.
There are other places I wanted to see, but the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden was definitely one of the spots I could not miss. Really a beautiful place, which would be even more nice if the sakura blossom forecast was a bit more accurate.
I missed a visit of Shikoku Automobile museum, but there are only some things a man can do in one full day of visit. Next time.

Kochi is a fantastic city, and the only problem I have is...
Kochi is a fantastic city, and the only problem I have is the difficulty in getting there. But once you arrive, it's a wonderful small city. Kochi boasts a wonderful castle where you can get a great tour of the history of the Kochi area. On the east side of the city there is a really nice botanical garden inspired by one of Japan's most famous botanists. And the Katsuharama Beach just to the south of the garden is a wonderful location for a stroll, and it has an especially nice sunset. And after a long day, there is no place better for dinner than the Hirome Market. At this market, the entire city comes together for the local seafood of Kochi. If you want to try the local specialty of seared bonito while chatting with the locals, this is the place to do so.
Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to explore anything further away from the city but I would love to come back to explore the rest of Kochi prefecture.

I suggest to take the bus S3 and go spend the sunset in Katsurahama, its just 20 minutes but its a wonderful peaceful place

You can visit all the places that are recommended to you in a day but that is only the start. Go to the Information Centre outside the train station. They offer free bicycle hire. They were the most helpful people ever.
The hotel's rooms were huge and comfortable, and its location wasn't too far away from the Kochi station and city center. Parking area was huge with many lots available. Included in your room charge were complementary breakfasts (only some breads and a couple of coffee machines/tea). You could also get hot water for all your late night cup noodle needs as well as access to a microwave.
Great location, right next to the Kochi station. Friendly staff and room was bigger than I was expecting for a business hotel. The free breakfast is super convenient and was delicious! They also allow you to take the food to your room, in case you don't want to expose yourself by eating next to others in the restaurant.
It feels more like a home than a hotel. We’re on a road trip around Japan and stayed at 5 hotels already. This is our favorite stay. Check-in instructions were easy and we got the location to use on goggle maps: No problem to find it. Easy communication with English speaking host.

About 1km from Kochi JR station, the only way to the hostel is walking. Staff is good but available before 8pm only. Room is clean & comfy but Wifi is not good, it's connented but no internet. Male shower room is on the 2nd Fl but male dorm is on the 3rd Fl.
Anyway, it's a good place to stay.
Brand new hotel with clean and classy infrastructure. The location is great as well, just next to the station with parking attached if you're using a car.
I particularly liked that the room has a humidifier + air purifier as well, which makes the room very comfortable to sleep in.
Location was across from the station so it was convenient and resulted in no extra transportation costs.
Room was more spacious than previous single hotel rooms in Tokyo.

Location was excellent, right at Harimayabashi and on the streetcar lines. We did not eat at the hotel, but found lots of local restaurants in the immediate area within easy walking distance. The hotel feels new or at least recently refurbished.
Pleasant stay, very clean and organised. Nice traditional breakfast and the hotel has a souvenir shop inside. Nice and clean bath. The room was very big for 1 person and very comfortable with individual bath included.

The hotel location as well as the setting of room and the amenities are all good! Not to mention about the breakfast as it is rich with different varieties. Staff are nice and friendly too.
Location is quite convenient to the Tram stops, next to Lawson. Host speaks fluent English. Parking is just next to the hotel at 1000Yen charge per day.
