The private onsen, the view, the foots baths, the umeshu bar, and supper was great!

The onsen was fairly quiet so was able to use it myself. I had also sent a luggage to this hotel and they were able to receive and they even brought my (heavy) luggage upstairs to my room without asking me! The hotel was also located right across the station.

This property was stunning- the views from the room are all of the water, the onsen was also a real highlight. The interior design was also really gorgeous if you’re into 80s art deco opulence.

1. Good Sea view especially sunset (even though I am too busy outside and no chance to see it.)
2. 1st floor room size is big that including a living room with a sofa, refrigerator, TV, Drying rack and also a Queen size bed which I feel very comfortable.
3. They have 3 washing machines and 2 drying machines that is free to use
That helped me a lot to wash my sweaty clothes.
4. Price is cheap.
5. Owner is a old couple but very nice to introduce their property as much as they can in Japanese.
6.Quiet

Katsuura is very scenic with beautiful bays, and a backdrop of mountains and small towns. Kii Katsuura is renowed for tuna fishing and so the freshest tuna sushimi can be found everywhere. Accommodation places are not far from the train station and local bus transport is available. While there are beaches as well as opportunity for recreational walking, we didn't have time to explore these options.

Only had half a day & 1 night but wish I had more.
Only had half a day & 1 night but wish I had more. Convenient JR station with excellent help and support from train staff & information centre. With the fish market there it was a hotspot for locals enjoying fresh fish and sushi. Few other restaurants to choose from for more variety. Great spot for sightseeing if ocean views are your thing. The next suburb approx 5-10min away even has a shopping complex including cinema and western fast food (if you’re so inclined). Seemed like a good base to explore southern Wakayama and it’s not full of western tourists (yes I am aware of the irony leaving this review being a western tourist 😂)

Near the Kumano national park, a seaside town known for tuna and onsens.
Local fish market near the harbour has fresh tuna sushi/sashimi. The big cave onsen inside hotel Urashima is a must visit, doesn't have to stay overnight, can visit via a day pass.
Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine (part of Kumano Kodo hiking route) and waterfall is nearby. There are buses between Katsuura and Nachi. The visit takes around half a day.

Amazing tuna sushi from fish caught the same day!!
Amazing tuna sushi from fish caught the same day!!
Nachi no Ogi Matsuri (Nachi Fire Festival) was really impressive and the mountain surrounding it is beautiful with giant trees and Japan's largest waterfall!
Really friendly people and easy to get around too!
The lady in the tourist information booth was really nice and they even have special local anime mascot goods available there so check that out too!
Overall this little fishing town is fun to explore with lots of local charm, great cultural experiences, and beautiful nature to admire. I definitely recommend visiting for a festival and checking out the daily tuna auctions in the morning. Eat maguro everything and be happy!
Located about 15-20 min walk from kii-katsurra station. Very good views over the sea. Hotel facilities good and we hadn’t booked dinner but when we asked the staff they were very friendly and happy to help us order from the restaurant separately which was really nice of them as we had just finished the Kumano kodo hike and were not in the mood to go back out and walk the 20 mins back into the town to find somewhere to eat! Overall clean and comfortable. They offered a free shuttle back to the station also.
The location of the hotel is great, it is quite secluded, which makes it wonderfully silent at night, but the town is still easily reachable by foot. The outdoor bath was exquisite, we spent quite some time there. Staff is very professional and accommodating. The shuttle to town was a big plus, we made good use of it. The view from our room was quite spectacular, we spent a lot of time on our "indoor balcony" with the windows open, listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below us.
Soaking in an onsen built inside caves over looking the ocean was a great and unique experience. Several choices of onsen that were available at different times of day. Very spacious room with fantastic sea views. Hotel shuttle ran regularly and continuously we never had to wait long.
Buffet was great and staff were wonderful and gracious. Most generous and best sashimi and sushi at a hotel buffet in our five weeks in Japan. My husband raved about the tender morsels of beef slices.
This apartment was fantastic - it was way bigger than expected with really comfortable beds and a great dining area. The neighbourhood was quiet and there was a great okonomiyaki restaurant in walking distance. There is a community bus (only runs every few hours) which only cost Y200 to get to Katsuura station. The hosts left a guest book for us to write in which was a lovely touch. The cost was amazing for the quality of the place. I'd love to stay here again.
I was running late at check-out and was given 30 extra minutes, which was very generous of the host. A free bicycle was also available, which was very convenient. The house has plenty of space and a full, well-equipped kitchen. The neighborhood is very quiet, about 2km away from Kii-Katsuura Station. The taxi ride from Kii-Katsuura Station to the house on the day of my arrival was ¥1,120.
A really interesting hotel which is a network of three buildings carved inside and on top of a mountain cliff. It offers a variety of shops and Entertainment (mostly for kids) as well as many bath options. There is a shuttle boat the bring you to the port of Katsuura which has some good restaurant options. Spacious rooms and nice view of the sea. English speaking staff at the front desk.
This is one of the best hotel I went to in Japan. The employee were really kind and helful with foreigner. Everything was on site ( restaurant / game / shop etc...) This resort has a great restaurant and also transport available if you don't have a car. The best part was the famous onsens in the cave. Everything was just perfect and fantastic !
The onsen in the cave overlooking the sea was a fantastic experience; the food was good; there were so many things to keep everyone entertained; the massage was very relaxing; the staff were very friendly and prompt; the boat ride to the hotel also added to the uniqueness of the experience. Would recommend it to everyone.
Great last night during the kumano kodo. This hotel is located right next to the train/bus station, which made it very convenient to arrive/leave. The rooms are comfortable and the shared onsen and bathroom facilities were very clean. The dinner was fantastic, highly recommend staying here just for that!
I only have positive things to say about the staff at this hotel. A gentleman greeted me so politely. He knew exactly who I was. I was frustrated due to being lost by following Google Map directions. This kind man was so understanding. He excelled at customer service.....a big hug to that gentleman.
The onsen was fairly quiet so was able to use it myself. I had also sent a luggage to this hotel and they were able to receive and they even brought my (heavy) luggage upstairs to my room without asking me! The hotel was also located right across the station.
I loved the open air bath. The room was spacious with comfortable beds and with a beautiful view towards the sea. The hotel is a bit remote, so all the surrounding area is very calm and quiet. And the breakfast was delicious, the best we've head in Japan. ❤️
Location is excellent for those after an Onsen by the ocean. Onsen facilities are great with a wide selection to choose from. The service is great like all Japanese hotels. The rooms and facilities were spotless
It's definitely the most beautyful onsen I've seen so far. Very nice location, hotel and staff.
Massage seat in the room was great!
My girlfriend could join the onsen even though she was tattoed.
Short boat trip to the hotel away from the busy world. Very nice hot spring next by the sea. Good view and very relaxing. Walk up to the peak with the kids after breakfast is enjoyable.
Best place you can rent to see the area, specially if you prefer apartments to hotels. The staff is very professional and kind, you cannot go wrong renting this place.
