Karuizawa offers an amazing small town charm with excellent food, friendly people, and accessible nature. Definitely check out the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel tour to view Musasabi! The only downside to this beautiful town is that it's a bit more pricey than the rest of Japan.

We would definitely go back.
We would definitely go back. Just around an hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo, Karuizawa is the perfect place if you want the laid-back, nature-embraced, old-town feel. Just strolling around town is cool enough but they have a lot of museums and galleries too, that the whole family enjoyed! Also got to try skiing for the first time. Overall, this is one place that we will always be included if we go in the Tokyo area again in the future.

A wonderful destination if you like fresh mountain air, lovely tree-lined roads, cycling, etc. Many useful bus routes and also Shinano Railway next to the Shinkansen that goes to Naka-Karuizawa and way beyond. Note that many restaurants close early, especially out of season. Many well-known restaurants need a booking.

Should spend more days in Karuizawa town.
Should spend more days in Karuizawa town. There is a Skiing sport just beside the Prince town outlets and worth for beginner to try and have fun. Walking distance to the old town bring different experiences and its very nice to try walk around and try the foods there. Its worth to go for a relax place. If more days , can travel down to the other town in Karuizawa for skiing and sight seeing. Awesome place to explore.

A European town in a forested mountainous region not far from Kusatsu, Shima onsen, or Tokyo.
The hot springs aren’t anything special but the mountainous scenery and delicious French/Italian food can be a nice change from the usual Tokyo bustle.
Autumn colours are nice, especially just north towards mount Asama.

Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed.
Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed. Like the “Club” room with free drinks (not beer) and games. Large rooms. Breakfast not buffet but “set,” and good enough. Not easy to spot entrance off the main road.
We absolutely love the size of the room. It was huge and the bed was very comfortable too. Decorations of the hotel were tastily done and it just gave us a very comfortable feeling. The restaurant breakfast is a must to try because the ingredients, the bread are just fantastic. They individually made the bun and the ambience was so comfortable. We stayed for 2 nights and we went for their breakfast for two morning. They do also have nice dinner bar also and feel free to try them too. But the breakfast was the highlight.
This is our 3rd time to visit Karuizawa. We had a great dinner at fine dining Restaurant, all dishes are really great. Our Moms enjoyed very much for Mothers day. Reception is really helpful, he help reserve table for restaurant, and explained Onsen in detail. It is friendly for elders to use hot spring.
Lobby is mordern, with exquisite view. Villa with sloping roof feel ourselves in a forest gallery. We loved and definitely will stay here again.
We loved everything here. The European outlook of the building and the elegant setting inside the hotel, in particular the lounge area. Our room was huge, with large beds, spacious sitting and bath areas. Everything inside the room was clean and the setting was warm. The location of the hotel is good enough for us, only a 5-minute walk to the shops and eateries at kyu-karuizawa and 20-minute walk to the outlet at the train station.
This is a wonderful hotel: warm, comfortable and spacious. With a car, it is the perfect base for trips to Usui Lake, Onioshidashi Volcano Park and Karuizawa Bird Sanctuary, along with Karuizawa Old Ginza Street and the factory outlets.
The room is much more than a hotel room - there is a lounge area, a galley kitchen, and good-sized bedroom and bathroom.
I reserved 2 rooms for family members who were visiting us here in Karuizawa. Hotel was mainly chosen because of its proximity with our residence. Rooms are spacious (31 sqm) and basically in good order and comfortable although the bathrooms are on the tiny size. Price is also correct in view of the local competition and onsen is available.
Hotel Rosso gave us the best value for money during our stay in Karuizawa. The hotel had a very cozy ambiance and we had a comfortable stay. The room was big and the beds were comfortable. A simple breakfast was included in the accommodation. There were plenty of parking spaces.
This is worst hotel or resort I have ever been. Common you can even stock your room with basic mineral water ? And we have to walk like 15-25 mins to our room in dark …atleast prep some torch light Seibu Group !
The hotel is in a terrific location in Karuizawa, and the whole staff in the hotel were so friendly and helpful. The room itself is cozy and quite clean. Highly recommend to this hotel if you visit Karuizawa.
Yusuke is a fantastic host with good English speaking ability
traditional Japanese house experience
good location, close to town but still very quiet
very close to an onsen that you can get a discount for
The hotel is located in a quiet area, very peaceful. The private onsen rooms are so impressive, must try. The staff is very nice and helpful. I don't mind coming back if I have a chance.
It's located close to the Karuizawa station. They have a system for keeping our luggage at reception before the official hotel check in time which was quite user friendly and efficient.
