A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalised in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheatre which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theatre whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which offer cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laidback and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

A very beautiful city with lots to see and do, a good selection of cafes, Osteria, Trattoria, restaurants and bars to suit all wallets. Churches, museums and of course the Arena to visit and not forgetting Juliet's balcony which was always very crowded.
Plenty of walks around the old Roman town and along the river, don't forget to cross to other side for the Roman theatre and the funicular to get great views of Verona.

Verona is a beautiful city- the buildings are gorgeous with muted colours in salmon pink, ochre, pistachio green and grey. People are very friendly and no problem with the language
It was, however, extremely busy and apparently September is a lot quieter! Around the Arena area it’s full of crowds and there was a concert on for 2 nights so queues in the square. Easy to get lost in the back streets with lots of shops and nice cafes and restaurants. The food was amazing….and wine really cheap and very good.
Preferred getting away from the Arena area and wandering the streets. Viewpoint on the Line B tour bus was amazing views. Nice for 2-3 days

Verona is full of history, culture and great food: the people are extremely helpful and friendly.
There are many great places to eat particularly away from the main tourist spots and prices are reasonable for excellent quality.
Verona is a walking city and all areas are easily accessible and don't forget to take a trip in the Funicular and experience the fantastic views of the city.
This was our sixth visit and will definitely visit again!
The apartment was in a great location and only a short walk to parking as you are not allowed to park inside the city. Our host was fantastic and was in constant communication with us leading up to our stay. The host and his family were very hospitable and friendly and helpful. The apartment was absolutely bespoke and beautiful. Clean and comfortable. This was our favourite accommodation of our two trip around italy. We loved it so much we re-booked another night in Verona a lovely town.
The owner very kindly picked us up from the airport at a reduced price (cheaper than a taxi) which was so lovely! The apartment was bigger than expected, and the breakfast provided was in your own dining area. Some yummy cakes are left for you! Location was good as only a 10 min walk across the river to the main area. Nice restaurant and gelato place 2 mins around the corner. We were only there for 1 night. Nice base to explore Verona. Wish we were there longer!
Hotel Torcolo is a 2 star hotel with 4 star service. The location is perfect, the staff are excellent, we felt at home, they were very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. The restaurant is also superb, one of the best meals we’ve had anywhere in Italy. Hotel Torcolo will be our first choice when we return to Verona. Big thank you to Catrina and all the staff.
Nice size room with good bathroom. You could check out till 12 and the breakfast buffet was served till 10.30, with plenty of options available.
There was a bus stop just outside the hotel which took you to the train station and airport and then into the centre of Verona. Very convenient location.
excellent location for browsing Verona.
The hotel was excellent at getting in touch in the lead up to our visit with travel from the airport information. Had an excellent sleep which is unusual for me my first night in a different bed.
