Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodation, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city centre apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.
Naples is a busy, crazy beautiful city! Many things to do.
Naples is a busy, crazy beautiful city! Many things to do. Like any big city in the US (NYC, Philadelphia, etc) it appears crowded and chaotic but is truly beautiful with many interesting sites as long as you are willing to deal with all that comes along with this historic and multi-layered city.
And the food and drinks were great!
We mostly got around with taxis and had no problem with being overcharged, but there is also plenty of buses and trains easily accessible.

I love Naples, but it's a matter of taste.
I love Naples, but it's a matter of taste. The city is so chaotic and dirty, yet so vibrant and authentic that you are barely bothered with the noise and dirt. The smells, colours, shapes, as in architecture, food, cityscape, landscape, are so dramatic and intense that you are instantly taken with the unique surreal appeal you won't experience anywhere else.

Stay there for one day at most , the outside areas are beautiful , Pompeii and Sorrento are beautiful but Naples is dirty , noisy , unhygienic. They try to scam foreigners if they can , have to be careful for pick pocketing. Pizza is amazing , food is good , not expensive but that’s about it.

We stayed for 5 nights which we felt was plenty of time to see the city and also took a trip to Herculaneum which I would highly recommend with Luigi an archaeologist as the guide. (Check that the train stops at Ercolano stavi)! We did a lot of walking and toured the old city, also Vomera which was beautiful and quieter. We walked a very long way on the sea front and the areas around Plebiscito Piazza. We ate at restaurants mostly around Via Depretis. We also used the bus, metro/train and funicular. The weather was just the right temperature 25-30 degrees C in June.

We stayed in the historic district and it was a great place to wander around with some amazing places to explore and visit. The Duomo Treasury with the audioguide was an unexpected delight. The public transport was good and it was worth staying in Naples and visiting Pompeii as a day trip. The MANN was a great place to visit and we spent two afternoons there, definitely worth it to make two visits and we still want to see more.

Naples feels like a real living breathing city, a far cry...
Naples feels like a real living breathing city, a far cry from some of the other more "disneyfied" over touristy cities in Europe. It is gritty and quirky with graffiti on almost every single wall and surface. We loved the city - it has so much to see and do, fantastic food and churches and a great place to walk, walk, walk! Must-sees are the Veiled Christ statue in the Capella Sansevero (itself a masterpiece), the San Lorenzo Maggiore (Roman market place underneath), Vesuvius, Pompeii and the archeological museum in Naples (so many mosaics and items from Pompeii).
Location was excellent to walking around the city. It was a 5-6 minute walk from the Universite Metro station and from the hotel we were able to walk all over the town. We had an early flight so they helped us call an early cab and even packed a small breakfast to go which was a very nice touch. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly. The hotel and rooms were modern and clean and updated. The bed was the more comfortable we had in our entire 2 week stay throughout Italy! Recommend as a good value for what you're getting.
This was my favorite property on my 10-days visit in Italy, too bad I only visited Naples for a day.
It didn't disappoint as I already knew I was gonna like the property itself because of location, facade and the upper terrace. Everything is photographed as expected. But what's magical about it was the overall experience provided by the hosts (Nico and Anna) and their angel, Patrizia. I got the opportunity to be welcomed well, the Napoli way ❤️
I'll come back next year and will definitely stay in touch with them.
The breakfast spread was amazing! We were served so many different kinds of pastries, cold cut meats, jams, Nutella, smoked cheese, juices for kids, espresso for me. The room was beautiful with a great view! Location was at the center of many attractions, metro stations, shopping, supermarkets. The owner was super nice and very helpful giving us great advice of places to eat, events happening nearby, popular sites, etc! We visited Italy for 3 weeks and this was probably our favorite hotel that we stayed at!
The flat is a bit claustrophobic and not light enough. The double bed is 2 singles who kept moving away from each other. The breakfast is composed of cakes, jam, nutella and sweet drinks. Too much for me!!!! This is not my type of breakfast but that how it is in Italy unfortunately. The transport near the house is quite rare, so need to walk to take any bus, when they exist!!!!. I found the transport in Naples horrendous. That has nothing to do with El Nido.
Room was very clean and spacious. Bed was very comfortable. Great shower! Mariano, owner of B&B, was above and beyond accommodating. Gave us explicit directions/guidance to us for our walking around the area locating restaurants. Provided our breakfast at our very early departure. Also, rather than dealing with taxi transportation, Mariano transported us from and to Naples airport.
I would definitely recommend staying at Elegance B&B Naples Italy.
beautiful property close to the metro as well as situated in a great location. Shops and restaurants are located only 10 mins walk away. The owner was very kind and explained some routes to take in Naples, as well as checked up on us every now and then to see if we needed anything as well. perfect location for a short or long stay in Naples! breakfast being included was nice as well. I would 100% return- this has been the best stay so far in Italy.
I love the location here. It is very close to the Spanish quarter which is a good place for a meal at night time. The hotel gives you very clear instructions on how to reach them before arrival (they include pictures). It's not always easy to find your hotel in Italy so this was extremely helpful. Tomb itself was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was impressive! As was the breakfast which is served to you in your room.
Great location, fantastic 5-star breakfast with amazing views (including Vesuvius) and real good cappuccino! Some of the friendliest staff I’ve dealt with in Italy. Extra services offered (luggage storage) was exceptional and greatly appreciated for our early arrival and late departure. We’ve been to Naples 5 times in the past 8 years and have finally found a place we know we will be calling home for all future visits.
This is a superb place. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were friendly and very attentive to every need. Gorgeous decor, very comfortable room and bed and spectacular bathroom. Cool and relaxing place to return to after sightseeing. Highly recommend, the nicest place we've stayed in Italy. Like a five star hotel, the staff are awesome! Thank you for all your kindness.
We loved this location! So easy to access all public transportation though we walked most places. We felt very safe, and the room was clean and comfortable, with espresso to enjoy in the morning (beware that in Italy, you have to manually stop the brewing process). We were provided an excellent map, umbrellas, thoroughly enjoyed this accommodation and Naples.
Sergio is a fantastic host. The busyness of Naples was great to be part of but to be able enjoy a noise free space in the evenings and mornings with a beautiful view of Vesuvius was the perfect end to two a week trip through Italy. Breakfast was delicious. Sergio, again was so lovely, welcoming and generous with his time and advice. Highly recommend
This apartment was just perfect. The best stay in Italy for my family. The apartment is large, with exceptional location, beautifully designed with everything needed. The best was the great host Mauritzio who was so nice, helpful and personal. I would highly recommend Casa Fiorito and would definately stay there again when we return to Naples.
They are so kind and helpful.
I can say that it's the best hostel I stay in Italy. Beds are so good, rooms are very large and you feel like a hotel, not a hostel. Everything was amazing.
Highly recommended to stay. If I visit Italy again, I will stay here again.
Thank you so much for everything!
It was great, it's the best stay I had in Italy, I really can't recommend it enough, it makes you feel at home, it's an apartment full of amenities, which helps you experience everyday life in Naples. Mario was an excellent host, his stay is a highly recommended experience.
Wonderful! Your apartment in Naples, Italy, truly left unforgettable impressions. The separate shower, toilet, and bidet provided maximum comfort, while the cleanliness and convenient location made the stay even more enjoyable. The photos correspond to reality.
Great location of suite right in the centre of Naples. Some lovely restaurants nearby (and cafes serving the best coffees and croissants in Italy!). Very clean and comfortable stay, would recommend. Thanks also to our host Bruno who was very helpful.
This is a prime hotel and the staff was so helpful, contentious and always there with a smile, joke or advice. Best customer Service in all of Italy as per our experience! The view off the Terrace is mesmerizing and the whole place is very clean!
After staying in hotels/hostels in other cities in Italy I stayed here and was very happy with it. Very clean place and provide toiletries. It is close to good attractions and restaurants.
