A city with a lot to offer but in a very poor state of repair. The amount of graffiti on every building and amount of rubbish on every street corner did not give a very good impression. Catania is best seen at night when neither the graffiti or the rubbish are so visible and the incredible night life takes over.
This is by far the dirtiest city I’ve visited and I have travelled to many poor countries throughout the world including Africa and South America and still Catania beats them all.

Its not the prettiest of cities but great to explore. goo place to use as a base to explore more of Sicilly with a big train station reachable by metro.
no harbour in the city to speak of but the beach is only a short bus ride away on bus D from Borsellino bus station. 1 euro fare.
don't go to the roof top restaurant at Catania palace hotel, ( except for a drink) the view was spectacular but took 3hrs to get food
Best hostel I've stayed in the whole of Italy. Clean, spacious, tastefully decorated, full of character, homely atmosphere, large rooms/bathrooms, lovely lounge perfect to socialise and meet other travellers, right in the centre of Catania, everything at the doorstep. Salvo and his volunteers are the most welcoming people ever, my time in Sicily wouldn't have been the same hadn't I picked this hostel and met them. Thank you guys!
Good location, by Via Etna. Simple, clean tidy room with good hot shower.
Breakfast fine, hosts in morning were nice and helpful.
Its a cheap hotel but dont let this put you off. It is clean and tidy.
Catania is rough around the edges. The walk to the railway station is through rebuilt postwar bomb sites.
The main street is beautiful, good architecture, views of Etna.
Excellent service from all staff. Good location very easy to walk into the main area of town. Was given a map and shown a good walking route to get all the main sites and end back at the hotel. Really helped as we were only in Catania one day, so ensured we made the most of it. Also the airport transfer was excellent.
The hotel foyer instantly impresses with the modern design, floor and wall finishes and lighting. The room was spacious, clean and has a boutique luxury feel. The balcony opens to the local square with views left and right of the centre of Catania.
