FAQs about hotels in Bergamo

A Bastion of Old World Charm

The arrival point of low-cost airlines and cheap flights to Milan, beautiful Bergamo is a tourist destination in its own right. In the foothills of the Alps, the city is spread over 2 levels. The main sights are in the upper level, or Città Alta, where sloping, cobbled streets open into pretty squares.

One such square is Piazza Vecchia with its pavement cafés, beautiful library and elegant Palazzo della Ragione. Through its arches is the Cappella Colleoni, an impressive chapel with an ornately sculpted façade and even more ornate interior. The next door Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore has awe-inspiring frescoes.

Surrounding streets contain several Bergamo old town hotels and B&Bs, while surrounding the whole upper city are 17th-century Venetian walls. There are still remains of the Rocca, the castle that guarded them, and there is also a castle in San Vigilio, a hilltop village reached by funicular railway.

A funicular also descends to the modern town – Città Bassa. Nearby is the Accademia Carrara, a fine art gallery, and opposite is the GAMEC modern art museum. The Serie A club Atalanta FC play in a stadium to the north-east, while south-west is the train station from where buses to Orio al Serio Airport depart.

Booking.com offers several Bergamo hotels near the airport and the neighbouring Orio Centre shopping complex.

Plenty of interesting tourist sights, easily accessed either on foot or public transport. The Citta Alta was a magnificent medieval city of culture. There were lots of vibrant restaurants in both the upper and lower parts of the city. Excellent transport on bus and train in order to visit surrounding towns and lakes.

A lovely northern Italian city that is not packed with tourists, even during the high summer. The Citta' Alta is worth spending one or two days in, as there's plenty to see. A good range & variety of restaurants & bars in both the old town and new.

Bergamo, what a hidden gem of beautifully kept churches and buildings from the 1100’s on. So many things to see and do, eat and drink Food prices were much lower than other tourist cities and delicious Loved the Citta Alta, walking at dawn in the quiet and cool although, the hills are steep and cobbled stoned. The lower city is sprawling and it’s a mission to try to see it all. 3 days would be a minimum stay. The city buses were frequent and easy to navigate

It is a hidden gem- lots of history around. It is a very clean city. Views to and from Cita Alta are breathtaking! Lovely walks in both the lower and the upper parts of Bergamo. I enjoyed climbing up to the Cita Alta by stairs.Nearby Adriano restaurant , which has been recommended by hotel staff, was excelent by service and by food& vine quality. Very good location of hotel has made it easy to access all places of interest, including a train station.

Especially the historical part of the city was really lovely and the views were amazing. Most of the town is not too crowded. It is also good city for day trips to other destinations such as Milan, Lake Iseo or Como. On the other hand, the non-touristic parts of the city were not well kept and we saw trash almost everywhere.

The true old style Italy in your room.the room was large and spacious the place is full of antiques far nicer than a new plain hotel or b&b with all you need for a stay down to a kettle and a mini fridge.the bathroom was fine a big shower a featurestone wall.heating an air con available too.the premises was just off a cobble stone street. The team contact you with all the details to access the room and are only a phonecall away should you need any assistance. They even arranged an early morning taxi to the airport for us.

Good location of B&B - despite the fact that it is not located in the Città Alta, you can easily reach the old town with a nice walk or by bus. What is most important, B&B is located in a historic building and its interior design is exceptional - not everyday you have a chance to spend the night in a palace-like location. Room was clean, spacious and well equipped and the breakfast was great - you can rarely find such breakfasts in B&Bs in Italy. Extremely nice and helpful host. Highly recommended place!

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They made meals to meet my vegetarian requests with no issues. And the shower might be the best one I have ever found in Italy (water pressure/hot water/and space!). The location is close to everything in Citta Alta. All around fantastic stay.

Breakfast was exceptionally good. Location just in the lower center of Bergamo, close to the funiculor to the Citta Alta and to the shopping street. The Roof Top Restaurant of the hotel has the exceptional view to the Old City and very tasty meals as well.
