The vibe we got from the minute we walked into the hotel. The staff are lovely & very friendly & well trained too you can see that aswell. The beds were comfy, shower was amazing breakfast was lovely aswell, probably the only thing I'd say that was a little bit disappointing was not having a swimming pool or jacuzzi etc apart from that everything else was excellent. I'd definitely recommend someone to stay there aswell.

FAQs about hotels in Kilkenny

Craic Larger than Medieval Life

Spirited Kilkenny was Ireland’s capital in the Middle Ages and although many monuments remain from back then, it’s now best known for the 'craic'. Kilkenny cream ale flows in pubs forming part of its legendary nightlife and tours of Smithwick’s showcase Ireland’s oldest operating brewery, on grounds containing the St Francis Abbey ruins.

Kilkenny has the most medieval churches in Ireland. Dating to the 13th-century are the Black Abbey and St Canice’s Cathedral, next to the Round Tower - the only remains of a 9th-century monastery founded by the saint.

Medieval streets, inns and wall remnants still stand, but the most impressive attraction is Kilkenny Castle, in large gardens by the River Nore. The 3-turreted fortress was a former home of the once powerful Butler family.

The Parade leads from here past high street shops to The Tholsel – the porticoed town hall. The Elizabethan merchants’ residence Rothe House is in a similar style. Wandering the colourful streets you can’t fail to notice buildings named after cats, a reference to the residents’ dogged determination. Local hurling team The Cats play at Nowlan Park, and the city hosts the annual Cat Laughs comedy festival, amongst others.

Booking.com’s Kilkenny accommodation includes hotels with spas and pools, and city centre guest houses near the train station.

The grounds at the Kilkenny castle were amazing. We should have given ourselves a little more time to tour that attraction. We spent an evening at Matt the Miller’s pub and had a delightful experience.

This small city has a lot to offer!

This small city has a lot to offer! The city centre is very walkable and the sites are close together. We did venture out by car a few miles one day to take a falconry class at Lyrath Estate and it was a highlight of our vacation. We spent two days in Kilkenny and I wish it would have been four days. We arrived right before the start of the annual Arts Festival. Judging by the festival booklet, the event itself is worth a trip back!

Kilkenny is a place i would really recommend to other people, This is a part of Ireland that i really did feel that i was away longer then i was, as there was always places to see and find out about Although Kilkenny is not on the coastline and has no beach really in its area, that would really be the only downfall i would have about it Yet the scenery around the area is really good and the churches and buildings in the town along with a few hidden walks are great

Nice atmosphere, plenty of places to eat with some places...

Nice atmosphere, plenty of places to eat with some places catering for gluten free, eg the Fig Tree. Beautiful places to visit eg The Black Abbey, Kilkenny Castle, Rothe House, etc. St Canice's Cathedral and Round Tower were very good but they badly need to give more warnings to people climbing to the top of the tower. It's nothing like climbing the steps in a medieval tower. It's almost perpendicular in places and stepping from the ladder to the landing on each floor requires caution. Everything is very carefully renovated and maintained but there are still dangers and I feel they should be made more explicitly clear. There's a wide range of shopping options from cheap and cheerful to boutique and I particularly loved the beautiful local crafts - some lovely little shops across from the castle. Shopkeepers and hospitality staff were great. I was out and about from 9-7 each day and felt completely safe. One thing I didn't like was a couple of groups of kids going around the streets and into shops intimidating shopkeepers, roaring and shouting. They didn't seem to bother with tourists but I'd watch my handbag nonetheless. I didn't sample the nightlife and stayed outside the city centre. Overall a lovely visit, so glad I went!
