We loved Pecs and hope to go back. Did not see enough of it on this trip....but gives us a good reason to return. Great hospitality and people very friendly. We enjoyed the food and found the city easy to get around.

There are amazing views over Pecs if , and that is a big if, the advertised views from your accommodation are real - often there is a view if you are in exactly the right room or part of the building, and if not, tough luck.
I have been there before and loved it; but the very disappointing room this time tainted the experience. So pick your place carefully - eg. don't be beguiled with stories of fabulous views over the city - check for yourself, and consider carefully if you would rather have a great view or easy and quick access to the many fantastic squares and buildings and museums etc. downtown and near downtown. There are excellent and reasonable places right downtown that will be comfortable and allow you to enjoy the city.

Pécs is a lovely place in Hungary with an expansive cultural heritage. The Cathedral, Széchenyi square and Zsolnay quarter are just a few of the must see spots. You can have very good food and wine (or beer) in Király street.
If you're feeling adventurous, Mecsek has the most amazing trails But even if you don't have whole day for hiking just make sure to visit Tettye and walk up to the observatory there.
Pécs is doable by foot most of the times, but has very accessible bus service as well. You can buy tickets on the bus with cash (forint).
Make sure to check the actual events (and book in advance) to experience the street market vibes, when all the best wineries of Hungary and traditional food stalls represent themselves.
See you in Pécs!

Pecs is a terrific little picturesque town with heaps of interesting churches, a mosque, a synagogue, museums and ancient burial sites. Most things are very close by. On Sunday everything is closed except cafes and it's like a ghost town which is good for avoiding hordes of tourists. Pecs is neat as a pin and would probably win a tidy town contest. There's plenty of food places and our favorite was the Korheli pub. I'm glad we chose to stop here for a couple of nights.

Not a crowded city, plenty of things to see.
Not a crowded city, plenty of things to see. Older waiters and cashiers don't really speak foreign languages, even basic stuff was hard to convey to them, so have that in mind. Younger ones are more fluent in that department.

Many of the sights -- the Csontvary Museum, the Cathedral, in particular, are within easy walking distance of the Fonix hotel, where I stayed. The city is the home of a university, so the streets were filled with students and other young people. My trip was a Wednesday day trip by train from Budapest, so other than the main sights and the fact that the performance in the theatre was a one-man show in Hungarian, which I do not speak, I regret not having planned another, full day. The next time I visit Hungary, I'll spend a couple of days in Pécs; for what I saw whetted my appetite for more.
The room was very nice, spacious, cool in the hot summer air of Pecs, the bathroom very new and nicely furnished and also very spacious, with nice amenities. I liked that they have a full mini-bar, and offer in room complimentary tea, coffee and water, which is always a plus when available. The breakfast was quite diverse. The staff was very friendly. We also used the hotel's parking that is nearby and easy to find.
Everything was very good - the location of the Hotel in center of historical area of Pecs , the room with balcony, the variated breakfast, the staff excellent, nice and helpful. The Hotel has also a link with a garage with parking seats for cars. An excellent choice for travelers!
I wasn't impressed at having to walk round to another hotel to book in. The reception at my hotel wan't staffed.
Not at all impressed with the breakfast. No coffee and it was genarally disorganised. I suspect the owners are trying to cut costs by cutting staff.
Even though the location is on the eastern edge, the hotel is close to the downtown area and in a pleasant neighborhood. The staff, especially the restaurant staff and the cleaning staff, were friendly and helpful.
