The Villa Hotel basically consists of the second floor of a restaurant in the middle of the park. It is a bit old-fashioned in an exceptionally charming way and seems a bit like "grandmothers living room" in the best sense. In other words: expect a bit "cozy/plushy", and not "modern design"-y. Staff is wonderful and helpful, breakfast buffet is good and offers all that one would expect from a four-star hotel. Definitely an excellent option when living in Debrecen, be it for leasure (thermal spa "across the street", city center 10min by tram), or if you visit the university. A detail that I really appreciated: the hotel left another key card in the electricity switch, which allowed for leaving aircondition on, if necessary, even when leaving the room. Given that the rooms are directly under the roof, this is a real incentive on hot summer days.

A beautiful and calm city, full of young people, interesting architecture, as old as newer buildings. Lots of bike paths for easier movement around the city.
The only drawback is that everything is monolingual and it is difficult to find your way in some basic things, such as paying for parking. But there is always a good person to help.

Default Hungary City, nothing for Tourists.
Default Hungary City, nothing for Tourists.
The streets are bad, the traffic is a bit dreadful because of chaotic traffic light system.
Visit Budapest or the eastern region of Hungary is really better for tourists, Debrecen is only for Workers.
But the peoples in Debrecen are mostly friendly and helpful.

The location of this apartment was spot on!
The location of this apartment was spot on!
Right in the heart of the city centre, walking distance to the train station and all the shops, bars and restaurants.
Sitting on the tiny balcony in the morning for coffee or evening for a glass of wine was very nice. So many great restaurants are in the area and the standard of food is very good.
Over the past 5 years we have seen so many changes to the City, Every time we visit, there are new restaurants and coffee shops, renovated walkways, and gardens. The architecture of the buildings is beautiful although there are now so many newly built modern flats being built too.
What I love the most about Debrecen is the quietness. The tram system is so efficient there are less cars & pollution. I always feel healthier when I'm here.
Visit the zoo & Lake Tisza.
I would definitely recommend this city and the apartment we stayed in.

Debrecen seems like a nice chilled place to be.
Debrecen seems like a nice chilled place to be. People are polite and respectful. there are things to do and visit. I would definitely recommend visiting the Deri Museum and Reformed College where lovely staff took me around to show and tell, a special thank you to Zsuzsanna, who accompanied me throughout my visit as i was the only visitor then and i loved it. We also visited Aquaticum and Thermal Baths, and had a ride on the steam train, lovingly called Zsuzsi Vonat by locals.
If you get tired of being there, venture off to Eger, amazing historical city 2.5hrs away from Debrecen by bus, or for more thermal baths head to Hajduszoboszlo, 30 min away by bus. For a nature fix, go to the Hortobagy National Park which is around 1 hour away by bust but worth the visit.
Debrecen may seem a little too quite, i don't wanna say boring, at times, but it grows on you and wins you over with its provincial charm.

I live here for 9 months each year, I love Debrecen, in the city centre everything you need is no more than 1000 metres away, the shopping facilities are excellent and the flower festival in august is a " do not miss " activity.
It was the best decision we could make booking this hotel. If you really want to be in the heart of the city with easy access to Aquaticum for instance through public transportation, it is the best option. We very much enjoyed our stay here, the room was very large with comfortable beds, huge bath with shower. The breakfast is ample, for sure you can find something for your taste. Staff is very helpful and attentive, parking is for free in the very front of the hotel. Overall, I would recommend it, and have it saved as a favorite.
Quiet neighborhood, excellent location if traveling with a dog or children: there are parks just next to the hotel and also supermarkets for shopping. Also convenient if you come by car as it's right next to the main highway to town. Easy to drive in and out. We really liked Debrecen for holiday and would come again!
If I didn't know it is actually a student's dorm, I wouldn't guess... it's a very nice temporary hotel, more confortable than many others with `etiquette` that I have seen in Hungary. Very close to the Aqua Park, University, yet far away from the city center... so depends on what you target when booking in Debrecen.
Perfect location: 2 minutes to all the central square with the church, the market and the mall. You can see the sign very clearly, despite the hotel being on the main street. Very comfortable transfer to the Aquaticum Spa. 24/7 reception, speak English. It was also quiet.
The staff is very nice and easy to deal with. On my next trip to Debrecen I will definitely book the same apartment. The location of the house is very good in the city center and everything is close to you.
