Sitia isn't of itself pretty, but the region that surrounds it is full of treasures from Minoan sites and geological wonders through to highly trekkable gorges and ravishing views. A car is essential and exploring is well worthwhile for the smiles per mile.

Sitia is a small town, not very touristy as it's so far east. You need a car to get to Sitia and it's not an easy drive. However, it's definitely worthwhile making the effort to get there as it's a lovely town with a great beach . There are lots of excellent restaurants overlooking the sea.

If you're looking for a not too touristic, rather quiet place (of course, worth the compulsory beach bars and restaurants area), not too expensive but still nice and with friendly locals, that's your place.
Not much to see/ visit in the city itself (not to say nothing at all) and also not the side of the island with a lot of stuff but I bet if you rent a car and go to Agios Nicolaos or the villages around you'll have a great time. Some stunning views on the way too!

I cannot tell if Sitia beach is good or bad, but on the eastern side of the island 20-30 km-s away there are fantastic beaches for sure.
The view of the town from the east is wonderful.
The stairs inside the town, with cats on them are charming.
The people are kind.
I could rent a car cheap, and travel around. I have seen nice places, for example the Toplou monastery...

Cute city, lovely beaches.
Cute city, lovely beaches. Kalamia beach had great vibes, music, best Greek yogurt.
Very very very steep and narrow roads. If you're not proficient with stick shift, get automatic or don't drive. Very scary to drive.
Otherwise if you are good with walked, great Greek village. Lots of nice restaurants.
Simple.
What a way to start our trip with such a great stay. This was by far the best hotel in Sitia. Its location to the town center was perfect; a 5 minute walk and you're in the historical town. We loved the size of our room; comfortable bed and huge balcony. The facilities are amazing; huge pools and plenty of beds. There is a private beach for visitors of the hotel which was also nice. We were amazed by the selection of food and the variety with the all inclusive rate. Everything we ate was delicious!
Everything was like all the other prior great reviews had promised. The room was so spacious, quiet despite being right close to the very popular beach. Eirikos was a great and very helpful host and his mother brought us the most wonderful home made apple tart. The drives and hikes that Eirikos pointed out were perfect as well as the local restaurant recommendations. Sitia is a great place to stay to explore Eastern Crete. Enjoy their roof terrace in the evening!
Fantastic find outside of Sitia. Just a short drive through the region’s olive groves and out to a spectacular ocean view! Fell in love with the architecture and stone design on the property- felt at home with many touches like a pizza and grill oven outside, many tables for outdoor seating, and VIEWS! Walked down to beach for a quick swim in the morning. Solitude and beauty - perfect combination. Windy at first but died down late night - part of the charm.
We enjoyed staying at Porto Kaza. The hotel is very cozy and the hosts are very nice and hospitable. We had a spacios studio with a very comfortable bed. The kitchen is well equiped and you can enjoy breakfest inside or outside on the balcony. The pool was great. The hotel is close to tavernas. Eastern Crete is very beautiful. We loved Vai beach, Paleokastro village, Erminoupoli beach, Xerocampos beach.
The apartment was exceptional, new, modern, very clean, equipped with all the necessary appliances one might need. The bed was very comfortable, and the place is sound proof, thus perfect for light sleepers like myself. The host was fantastic as well - making sure we had a relaxing and unforgettable stay in Sitia! We plan to go back there very soon! Strongly recommended!
this hotel has lovely sea views, and is ideally situated as it’s very close to the town centre. the road outside is not very busy, so not much road noise. the rooms were kept immaculately clean. the roof terrace is absolutely stunning with 360 panoramic views, and is great for enjoying a g & t!
The location was excellent, as the hotel's position on the waterfront of the city allowed direct access to the city centre, which was in close proximity. Great selection of shops for coffee and food, easy access to the town's airport, perfect for a relaxing stay in Sitia.
We had a wonderful stay in Downtown Sitia. The apartment is bigger then expected and the location was just perfect, at the end of the street you have the promenade. Polydoros is the best host you can have, very helpful and kind. We will definitely come back!
Michaela and her husband were very welcoming! Lovely, large villa 5 min drive from central Sitia and a short drive to some amazing beaches/swimming spots. The villa has a huge pool and fantastic BBQ facilities. We had a great stay and highly recommend!
A very cosy and hospitable place to stop in Sitia! Conveniently located to explore the eastern part of Crete and its attractions.
The main is the amazing area with the pool and the magnificent garden.
The room is cosy and spacious for the family.
Nice family run Guesthouse on the edge of town overlooking the small Port with views of the arriving and departing ferries. If using the ferry it's a perfect destination.Comfortable, clean, spacious room with nice balcony view.Reasonably priced.
The hotel is located in front of the water in the heart of the town. Free parking is provided in the back of the hotel, which is very convenient. The staff is very polite and professional. The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet.
Owner was very polite and responded really quick to questions. You can enjoy the nice view from the balcony every morning during your breakfast.
The center of the town is easy accessible per foot.
The kitchen is fully equipped.
Best location, best ocean views, great prices. Very friendly helpful staff. Easy hotel parking. Close to everything. Highly recommend I will stay there again. Nice balcony with ocean views.
Spacious, clean, excellent location that is just enough off beaten path. Safe for running and 1 mile walk to town so
You can burn off the amazing food on the lovely harbor in the town
location was 45 seconds from the beach and a 1minute walk to windsurfing rentals and lessons. Only a few minute walk into town thru some nice olive tree gardens
Exceptional views of the town and bay. Great value for money. Convenient to Sitia town and short walk to port. Host was very responsive. Beautiful terrace!
