The owners were lovely and seemed very laid back and genuinely welcoming. Beds were comfy. Bathroom was nicely fitted out. We arrived during lambing season ...and the lambs were gorgeous. Also, lots of swallows on the farm and even saw a barn owl one evening. On our travels we also saw lapwings, curlew, oyster catchers, a tree creeper, and lots more ...and enjoyed a couple of very nice local walks. This was a lovely rustic retreat, at an affordable price, where we could relax in the middle of beautiful countryside.

Friendly town, lovely meal in the Queensferryand Buccleuch Hotel, and excellent Chinese takeaway too. There were loads of cafes and a couple of independent shops, and well stocked Co op and Spar. Had a good walk in the grounds at nearby Drumlanrig Castle.

Thornhill is a small village in “the middle of nowhere.” This is what a local said to me. The scenery is beautiful with the rolling hills and the farmers fields. The village itself is quaint with impressive looking buildings.

Thornhill is a really quiet place but its in a great location for exploring the surrounding areas and makes a change from the overcrowded Lake District. Having said that there are very few other options in the town for eating and drinking.
Friendly staff. Very clean. Good sized room. Large comfortable bed. Not a huge choice for breakfast but adequate and good quality... excellent porridge. Can't quite make up my mind about the evening meal, it didn't quite hit the spot, as if the chef was trying too hard....and far too much salt, after 2 meals we ate elsewhere on our third night. Still, a good hotel and I will happily stay again.
Very convenient holiday home: light and spacious and ideally located in the middle of a region with lots of things to do and see. The village of Thornhill is well equipped with small supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and even a coffee bar although the general atmosphere is average.

The cottage itself was just perfect. Everything was right there and so clean and comfy. Stayed over in Thornhill for a wedding so didn't spend much time in the cottage and didn't get to utilise the little garden. Would gladly stay there again if the need ever arose.
The hotel was very clean, welcoming and the staff were very accommodating - any issues were quickly attended to. Rooms and bathrooms were good size and very comfortable. Breakfast buffet provided something for everyone! Dining room light and airy.
Lovely cosy cottage to spend Christmas with my husband. Well equipped kitchen and we loved the log burner. Bed very big and comfortable. Within good commuting distance of Dumfries for food shopping. Would highly recommend booking a stay here.
had a lovely stay & Elizabeth was superb host & made sure all was satsfactory. The period house is very comfortable & spacious with quiet relaxed atmosphere....very different from the city hotels & stopovers :)
Lovely location for walking or cycling. A few miles away is Thornhill which has some lovely eating places. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the property is very clean and well equipped.
Great area for walking and sightseeing. Plenty of cafe’s with good food. Can recommend Jinty’ b’s in Thornhill and Kilnford Farm shop near Dumfries. Very pet friendly cottage.
We enjoy the peacefulness of the location, with no main roads nearby, lots of wildlife, and country walks. It is close to Thornhill so you can visit this town.
