Skial is a beautiful Scottish glen full of nature and all...

Skial is a beautiful Scottish glen full of nature and all the locals which live along it are very friendly. This is a place to go if you love wild places, peace and quiet. There are none of the niggles of the modern world here. The nights a dark (no street lights) and the road has little traffic. Perfect for those seeking peace and quiet. The River Naver is only across the road and is lovely to walk along. If you are a fisherman, then it's probably a delight as it seems to have salmon in it. This region is about as wild as you can get in the UK and yet still have access to modern comforts. There is no Wi Fi, but you can pick up radio and the post is collected daily from several post boxes along the road. There are two or three places to eat in Bettyhill, in season and possibly one place out of season. The people are very friendly and the poritions large. They also do a good selection of coffees and teas. It is worth walking along the River Naver, along the Bettyhill beaches and in the hills which surround this region. Not to forget the lovely walk in the large Brora wood just up the road from Bettyhill. There is a petrol (gas) station at Bettyhill and a general store.

Camping with quite a few extras!

Camping with quite a few extras! A double bed and most mod cons Kevin, the host, is attentive and pleasant. He arrived very quickly when we got there and rang him and sent us useful emails about what we would need and how to find the place We stayed in Thurso before catching the ferry for a week's diving in Orkney and that was £25 more expensive and didn't have a fridge, a firepit, and outdoor space. Very good value for money

We were there just one night, but it would have been nice to explore for a couple of days. It certainly is a beautiful part of the world and would be keen to get back up there in the not too distant furture.

We loved our stay, albeit just the one night.

We loved our stay, albeit just the one night. Our host Kevin went out his way to make sure everything we needed was catered for. He even supplied our full Vegan breakfast. It’s a pod at the end of the day, but it has everything in it. The showers were really good, adequate heating, fridge and cooking facilities. The bed was very comfortable and it’s a really quite place, so great nights sleep. And you can also sit out or cook by the camp fire. It’s a long way from any shops, so just make sure you have all your snacks or drinks for your stay. The breakfasts are in the fridge waiting for you, and you can cook these inside or outside, as everything you need to do so is provided. It’s not a busy site, so not loads of others going about.

    Wherever you drive it's beautiful.

Wherever you drive it's beautiful. But do take your time to walk about the landscape. The weather up there is unfiltered, when wind blows, it blows! But when it doesn't, the lochs are mirrors. As self-catering guests we only ate our best creations. All locations are worth visiting, we only hit Lairg, Bettyhill, Tongue and Crask. And Altnaharra, where there is a Hotel with an inviting restaurant. Also a must do: Climb the next higher hill or mountain. There are no paths, only sheep trails, but if you watch your step you'll manage. The view is breathtaking!
