Hotel was quite big for that area and looked to be busy for night what I stayed. There was big car park, no issues with parking. Restaurant was quite big and capable to cater for everyone in good speed, very helpful staff. Breakfast is pre-order with some non-traditional breakfast choices based on local fish, really liked that

Very basic room, small but ok. Same with Bathroom. No additional facilities such as a residents lounge. Leaving early 07:30 so breakfast not available but a reasonable packed breakfast. but once again a small room so not realy great for taking it. OK but not great value for money.

Good location for places of interest.

Good location for places of interest. Ten mins to Castle of Mey, I walked back to the property along the coast it was lovely. Great to walk around with our dog, very picturesque, lovely sheep and cows. House Martins and Skylarks everywhere. Castletown Hotel great for food fifteen mins away - need to book. Windhaven Cafe fifteen minutes from cottage on way to dunnet Head RSPB Great for a cuppa and cake. Brough Beach behind the cafe has grey and common seals but please be respectful of their space. Single track steep road to get to this beach, only for confident drivers. Dunnet Forest lovely for a walk.

A great stay right on the edge of the sea.

A great stay right on the edge of the sea. A comfy bungalow with almost new carpets. Great views across the Pentland Firth towards the Orkneys. Great to watch seals just over the garden fence. A location to crave for. There was no welcome pack. Arriving on a Sunday meant that we had to dash out to get basics like milk and bread. Unfortunately, the electric fire in the lounge did not work which was a pity as we had one or two cold evenings. Neither of the toilets were disabled friendly which caused great problems. There was no soap tray in either shower.

It was convenient for where we wanted to visit. Things listed as part of the rental eg barbecue, tumble drier, coffee machine had to be paid for, no sea view. Ran out of essentials like toilet roll, wash up liquid, kitchen roll. Over priced.

If you stay in a house on the front, you get a lovely view if the sea and across to Orkney on a clear day. From Skarfskerry you can get to John o groats and down the east coast or you can can go west to many places. It is also just down the road from the castle Mey,owned by the Queen Mother. Go to the restaurant at Scrabster, lovely meals there. Avoid the van at John o groats for food. The fish n chips we got was frozen and awful. Go to Broughs Bay on the way to Dunnet head and you will see lots if seals. Hopefully you will see puffins at Dunnet head too.

It was an ideal location to stop off after day one of NC500 going anti clockwise. Close to lovely beach and supermarket in Thurso. Also close to John O Groats. We drove from here to the Dunnet Head lighthouse which was also close.
