The Waterfront, hotel in Rhu

The Waterfront Apartments are a budget accommodation in Greenock with security entrance, it was previously student accommodation around 9 years ago.

At firat we were a little concerned by the look of the property, but we needn't have been. The chap who meet us was friendly and courteous. The location was quiet with plenty of parking. The room, although small, was all we needed as we were out exploring each day. Amazingly we saw dolphins one morning from our room!

All the people we spoke to were very pleasant - and helpful with directions.Everywhere was clean ! It was easy to find our way around and redeveloped areas had obviously been done with great care and were ' people-orientated 'There are excellent places to eat offering a variety of cuisines at competitive prices. There is a small friendly cinema, at least one large park, an interesting ' outdoor museum ',leisure centre, boat trips and, of course " the prom " ..., and more ! Last but not least MacIntosh's " Hill House ".We had no trouble parking at the pier (but this was in October ) This is my 2nd visit and I hope to be back !

The local Clock Chimes constantly every hour and every 15 minutes thereafter causing interrupted sleeping issues. Had we known about the clock we would not have stayed there. In general the staff were very helpful. Except when there was a dog constantly barking for 20 minutes and no person in attendance.

We didn't stray from the hotel much as the weather was not very good, so it's difficult for us to give great insight, but as we love the sea it's great sea front views were very appealing to us. There were plenty of suggestions for things to do and places to visit to enhance our stay had we chosen to do so.

The accommodation was advertised as Rhu but was actually several miles south of Rhu at Helensburgh. This was false advertising and if I had known this I would not have booked it. The place was basically a run down council flat. I was very disappointed.

Not much to entertain in Rhu.

Not much to entertain in Rhu. Soon exhausted the immediate local picturesque walks and had to drive further afield. Not bad as a base to either head towards the major cities or out to the lowlands proper via car, or train from Helensburgh

Rhu is a small little town on the shore front.

Rhu is a small little town on the shore front. It has exceptional views of the Loch and a 30 min walk into the nearest built up town and village. The walk is beautiful because it is along the shore line and the views are breathtaking. At the entrance of the town is a pier you can walk up and we grabbed a take away, found a spot on the pier and looked out over the Loch and had dinner. I was overwhelmed with the food choices, which was good for me (at least there was a range of options for a vegetarian who doesn't eat cheese!) The location was great to get to Loch Lomond, it took us 20 mins to get into a town called Luss (a town great for waterspouts and cruise tours on Loch Lomond) and took us 25 mins to get into Balloch, which was another built up town with food options and further options for different historical cruises.

The location was excellent, we had a super view from our room and the breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and responsive, especially Jack in the bar. Although the weather was not great The Rosslea Hall Hotel has lovely grounds and would be a fantastic base to explore the area, ideally placed near to Helensburgh but not far away from the wonderful walks available in the area. A choice of bar menu or Restaurant food was available (we ate in the bar which was fine). Overall we would happily return to this Hotel.

Dinner in the bar was fine, (but not special enough to repeat on the second evening, so we opted to find a restaurant in Helensburgh). Location quiet and surroundings pleasant. Room was clean, warm, quiet, and well equipped, though not spacious. Staff very friendly and attentive. Car parking right outside and free of charge. Views across loch to Rosneath pleasant. Rhu is a quiet and pretty village just outside Helensburgh; hotel on a spit of land on the edge of the loch, but no direct views from hotel.

went to see Ardencaple Castle tower remaining (ancestors) but staff didn’t know where it was and didn’t spot any photos of it in hotel. Found it with Google and a local provided great info about the MacAulay castle and history. Hotel should do same as only booked it because the Ardencaple name reflected my ancestors but would not now recommend to my USA MacAulay ancestors. Otherwise was a good place to stay.

The rooms have just been refurbished and ours was very comfortable and clean. the shower was great, high power and plenty of hot water. The food was very good we had breakfast, dinner and lunch and everything was excellent. Also the staff were friendly and helpful. If we had visited in the summer it would have been lovely to utilise the seating area at the front of the Hotel which looked onto the sea.

As a family with two young children, Rosslea was an excellent hotel - the staff were attentive and the breakfast was very good - we had a room which accommodated a cot with ease and then an unexpected adjacent twin room for our older child which was brilliant for space and privacy.

Friendly staff, nice bar area, good parking facilities and great hotel location with a nice view from the room window. I also brought a bicycle and was able to store it in a function room behind reception, I would stay here again when doing another cycle trip in the area.

I wanted a typical establishment to spend our last day of vacation in Scotland. It was perfect with all facilities: restaurant, pub, hotel, breakfast. I recommend the breakfast, really typical and fine quality with a choice for all kind of requirements.

Rosslea Hall is nicely positioned with good views of the Gareloch and Clyde. A couple of miles from the centre of Helensburgh, it was very well served by the local bus service. Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good. Thank you.
