Crown hotel, hotel in Portpatrick

Located in Portpatrick and with Portpatrick Beach reachable within a few steps, Crown hotel provides a terrace, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi and a bar.

The first room we were offered was a weird shape with sloping ceilings and the small window faced a blank wall of the next building so was very claustrophobic. However it was no bother to change it for another which was much nicer and had a view towards an old church. The shower was super powerful despite being on the top floor, and the free toiletries were very useful. The cooked breakfast was excellent.

Nice quiet area, not good when it’s raining nothing to do but walk or go to the pub! Limited shopping which was closed, food and drink quite pricey in the pub The Crown was best but busy. Nice independent coffee shop on Main Street. Pottery closed Mon and Tuesday, when we were there Boardwalk was also closed so no ice cream.

A great little town plenty to see and do with awesome coastal walks close by, Dunskey castle is among the best ruins ive been to., and Kennedy gardens is only 10 miles away featuring Castle, loch beautiful gardens, huge lily pond & a great tea room with outside seating. The scenery on the coast is stunning, rock formations and gorgeous bays abound, April found every where really quiet too including the roads.

The staff were brilliant and always willing to go that extra mile. We asked for an upgrade and it was sorted in minutes. Gavin at reception was exceptional. The breakfast was a choice of continental or full Scottish. We chose the full Scottish and everything was cooked to perfect. Coffee/tea, apple juice and orange juice were available too. Everything served with a chat and a smile. Dinner can be purchased at £20 per person per day at time of writing. Our room was a twin and very spacious looking over Port Patrick harbour. You will be blown away..!! The room was warm and clean with tea/coffee making facilities that included Scottish shortbread. It also boasted, iron board and iron, hair dryer, TV with a good mix of channels, suitcase rack and a very handy book on things to do and see in the local area. The bathroom was also very clean with toiletries in abundance. The shower was strong and easy to use. The hotel has well stocked bar, bottled and draught also local beer and spirits with reasonable prices, also a poolroom/TV room with games like chess, draughts etc. Outside the hotel there’s lots of paths for walking with breathtaking views and if your really brave you can walk down the many steps to the harbour area where you will find tennis courts, bowling green, pitch and putt and many other facilities. A great place to stay if you fancy some fishing either from the harbour or rocks, or there’s many local lochs for trout, pike, perch, etc. The hotel even let us store our bait in a freezer. All in all, a very welcoming hotel at very reasonable prices. Try it, you won’t be disappointed..!!!

We arrived early evening and left about 9.30 the next morning so did not see anything of the place. It was cold, wet, windy and with waves crashing on the rocks and so was not conducive to exploring in what was left of the daylight. In any event, we were only there for one night before moving on.

Rosie on reception was brilliant and so polite.

Rosie on reception was brilliant and so polite. Gave us tips on where to go and what to do, nothing was too much trouble for her. We will definitely be back. Location is perfect with fantastic sea views too . Mount Stewart for food and ambience . Dunskey Castle walk along the coast is lovely, or The Southern Uplands Way on the other stretch of coast . Take a trip to The Mull of Galloway where you can walk around the lighthouse and go down to where the old foghorn is. Lovely cafe just a bit further down the hill too with amazing views.

No 4 Portpatrick was a fantastic place to stay. The property is on a quiet street only a few seconds walk from the beach and local amenities. The room we stayed in was great - well laid out and very comfortable. The hosts were amazing and extremely helpful, answering all of our questions about the area and giving us some very helpful advice. Breakfast was brilliant - we had a choice of cooked food, cereals and porridge (or all three!), as well as a range of hot drinks and juice.

What a view! The hotel was spotlessly clean, cosy and the bar was lively and full of character on a Saturday afternoon. A gorgeous fire that kept the cold at door. The staff are some of the most helpful and welcoming we have experienced. We had dinner at the hotel and enjoyed everything. Reasonably priced and best of produce. Breakfast is plentiful and offers something for everyone. We will certainly return in the future. Absolutely delighted with our stay.

I love The Harbour House, I am biased but honest. Liked all the 3 nights we were there, the DB&B deal was very good, as was the food and staff. The rooms were great, I think I have stayed in 4 of them up to now. I cannot find anything wrong with the Hotel or Portpatrick, the surrounding area and walks are breath taking (the southern upland way, starts here)

It was a room in a row of detached cottages next to the hotel which is located on the shorefront. Portpatrick is a beautiful place with lots of good hotels, pubs, and restaurants. Staff were friendly, the room was smallish but had all the features you might need. The breakfast was very good. Everything was clean.

Hotel is situated on the promenade at portpatrick. Fantastic location. The crown has a large dining area apart from the pub area and seating outside. Room had everything we needed, and would stay again. If you've got mobility issues, make sure you have a ground floor room (stairs only).

This hotel has the most amazing vista to both the port and the sea. Just a short walk to the harbour. The restaurant is fantastic as are all the staff. I have been coming to this hotel for over 5 years and always live every minute of it. “come as a guest, leave as a friend”
