Barony Castle Hotel, hotel in Peebles

Set in 25 acres of mature grounds, the Barony Castle Hotel is an impressive castle has a stylish award winning restaurant and modern leisure centre.

last minute booking due to cancellation of room at previously booked hotel ( by another hotel group), room was listed as a single ( last room at hotel) but was a small double which was a pleasant surprise, food very good with portions which were enough without being overfaced or still hungry . Bar prices were competitive for a 4* hotel. Breakfast was good but only plain yoghurt available in a bowl rather than individual flavoured pots but i understand that this is happening in many hotels to reduce waste.

Lovely wee town, lots of independent shops to browse. Our favourite was CocoaBlack. It was immaculate, the chocolate and the cakes were absolutely superb. Id come back to Peebles for them alone! Lovely staff and a real treat. Dont miss it if youre there. We had a walk and stopped in at CocoaBlack then headed over to Melrose to see the Abbey.

We liked the very welcoming community. The river was beautiful and the churches were impressive. Very scenic. Could do with more public loos being open and those that were open were expensive. Some interesting looking restaurants. People's mural interesting. Some lovely little craft shops.

Staff in all areas were excellent.

Staff in all areas were excellent. Used the gym rather than the pool this time around preferring to chill out more than usual in the main lounge area. Food in the restaurant was lovely and the breakfast had almost everything you would want. If you want to eat out there are a number if options. Over our two visits we had excellent meals in The Mandarin (great team), The Cross Keys (Weatherspoons), Number 56 cafe (local favourite) Green Tree Hotel and The Crown.

Enjoyed excellent meals at the Crown Hotel. The Thursday market did not seem to exist maybe because of the heavy rain when we were there The book and craft shop in a lane off the high street very much worth a visit..

Attractive riverside walks; castles within walking or driving distance; the town has good quality coffee shops and some gift shops; not far from Edinburgh if wanting to go further afield. Town has health centre and hospital. Also theatre. Some of town's attractions do not open until Easter.

The Cross Keys is right in the centre of peebles which was great, the food is pub grub and we really liked it. The room was really large, the bathroom was quite luxurious with a huge shower cubicle, we overlooked the beer garden though you couldn't hear anything from the room. This was the second time there and will go back again. We have been to peebles six times and stayed at different hotels and the Cross Keys is the best one yet.

Although the hotel doesn't have its own car parking much free and easily accessible parking is available close to the hotel in the small town. The hotel has great access to the quaint town of Peebles and to the nearby River Tweed, a fantastic salmon river. The room was comfortable with all mod cons. Hotel food and drink prices were reasonable. The fullsome Scottish Breakfast included a large slice of Haggis!

My partner and I walked to Peebles on the Cross Borders Drove Road and this was an excellent place to relax after a long day. I was expecting a quaint B-and-B because of the property's age, but I ended up in a very smart and sophisticated room with great facilities and a full restaurant downstairs. Although I didn't require it, it was wheelchair-accessible, including the bathroom. Very satisfied.

The location of the property was perfect. Out in the country but reasonably close to Edinburgh, North Berwick, Peebles and many more. The breakfast was lovely and the food in the restaurant was nice and not overpriced. It was nice to be able to use the pool and there are some great walks from the hotel too. It was a very enjoyable stay.

Had all amenities expected and some which were not i.e. it has fridge, washing machine, oven and microwave as well as a dishwasher. Small sunlounge, garden area back and front with space to park the car in the driveway. Overall excellent

The location is great. 10- minute walk to centre of the town, and close by the river, which is lovely if you have decent weather. There are some neat little shops with friendly assistants. A few hotels around for meals and drinks, and a good chippie. Peebles is a nice little town in general.
