At first we were disappointed, but we had 4 nights and in the end we really appreciated everything. The owner was super nice, a beer in the pub in the evening with some locals was always a nice end to the day. We even discovered beautiful hiking tours that you could do directly from there. Breakfast at the nearby Trucker Grill was an nice experience and there is an excellent restaurant nearby.
Boasting a swimming pool and on-site restaurant and bar, Balavil Hotel is located in Newtonmore inside the Cairngorms National Park, 45 miles from Inverness.

Location and views were superb. Pods were absolutely clean and a little welcome pack was lovely. Even the room we stayed in the house was big with beautiful views. Indoor barbecue was fantastic. We took our family from India to Scotland and stayed with them at Tigh an Each. They were very impressed. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Stevie & Joan for being such kind hosts and for such a wonderful stay!
We will definitely recommend Tigh an Each to our friends and might plan another visit soon! 😀

The property was so well maintained with beautiful lawns etc . View across the valley amazing. The host Annie was so lovely and spent heaps time chatting and informing us . We had dinner there as we didn’t want to go back out. The lounge was fantastic and Annie lit the fire for us . Breakfast great and the most comfortable bed . Definitely highly recommend this property.

Newtonmore is a small village with little to offer in the way of shops, etc. The speed limit in towne center is much too fast to afford safe pedestrian crossing of Main Street and the thru traffic is heavy for such a small town. The crown jewel of Newtonmore by far is the Balavil Hotel; the accommodations are warm and comfortable, the staff is top notch and the food is superb.

Well appointed hotel complex.
Well appointed hotel complex. Our room was in the Annexe and very well furnished for short stay visitors. Very clean and fresh. Garden and surrounding areas well maintained and seating areas provided should the weather be favourable.
We opted to eat in the hotel for Dinner and were not disappointed. Service was first class and food standards were excellent.
Areas arund Newtonmore very accessible from the A9 and east through Kincraig to Aviemore was pictuesque. Lots to see and do, very vibrant area within 15 mile radius.
Avoid coming through Perth as road Duelling on A9 is causing significant delays. approach from the south easier through Crieff and join A9 at Dunkeld- free run from there.

Newtonmore is an excellent base for a stay in the highlands.
Newtonmore is an excellent base for a stay in the highlands. Without the business of Aviemore easy access to the Highland Wildlife Park and Highland Folk Museum and if you feel the need for something to do that all ages can take part in there's the Wildcat Walking Tour. A selection of eating places but if fast food is your thing maybe not for you.

Lovely village to stay in for touring this area of Scotland.
Lovely village to stay in for touring this area of Scotland. Golf course and beautiful river side walks. Easy access to A9 for travelling further afield. The Glen Pub at the edge of the village is a must - very friendly welcome and service and stunning food. Co-op in the village for those needing groceries etc. on a self-catering holiday. If you stay in this area I recommend a visit to a fantastic coffee shop in Kincraig called The Post Office Cafe Gallery.
Great, cozy and comfortable accommodation. Family run business with great Highlands hospitality. The guest house is from 19th centuries but it was renovated and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was fabulous, tasty with a high end menu and generous serves. Offering a full Scottish breakfast was an absolute bonus. It was amazing to be able to try such a cultural food in country town.
Glen Hotel 100m away offers gourmet meals at pub prices.
We were 2 families and we all loved our stay. Wish we could score more.
We felt very comfortable. The cottage was very lovingly furnished, our dog was allowed to come along. The property has a fence, so our dog could run around the house freely. Rod and Dianne were always available for us, we contacted them when we had questions about the area, excursions or sights. We got great tips for trips. Newtonmore is centrally located. Excursions are easily possible from there. If we go to Scotland again we would rent a cottage from Rod and Dianne again.
Charming place very conveniently located to a number of outdoor activities in the Cairngorm region, distilleries. Very nicely appointed rooms. Great breakfasts. Laura and Bryan were lovely hosts. Great communications. They were very helpful with making reservations at local restaurants and their recommendations were spot on. We greatly enjoyed our stay. Hike the Wildcat Trail if you have time and visit Ruthven Barracks nearby. Highly recommend.
The views were absolutely amazing. The location is fabulous - close to so much and yet feels like it's away from everything. The most comfortable night we had in our entire trip. Owner was friendly and helpful. Kids loved the animals too and didn't want to leave. At the end of our week long trip which included the adventure park nearby, beaches and river swimming the kids have declared the Shepherd's Hut to be the highlight.
Comfortable old hotel, location was perfect for us travelling between Inverness and Edinburgh, the pool was a bonus with pool towels provided, food was really tasty, staff couldn't do enough for us and we were well looked after, especially leading up to Christmas. The pub had darts and pool table which we enjoyed on a rainy day when we couldn't do the Wildcat trail.
Fantastic location....beautiful area with lots of walks, hills, beaches, waterfalls, and outdoor activities nearby. 10 minutes to Newtonmore, 25 to Aviemore for easy access to shops, pubs, restaurants etc. Lovely cottage, has everything you need - 2 minutes from the A9 but very quiet with a fenced rear patio looking out onto a grass area and pond. Very dog friendly.
The room was great, very comfortable, clean and tidy. Small fridge and soft drinks provided were a nice, welcome touch, and the breakfast was simply incredible. Lovely garden where we enjoyed a nice drink too. Location was great for access to hillwalking locally in Newtonmore and up Cairngorm
Renovated room even though the hotel is pretty old. The staff was very kind, waiting for us at check in and helping us find our way. I had no breakfast so cannot tell how good it would be. The bath shower was good. The mattress was also good so we slept well. I would stay again.
Great House, ideally situated for visiting Aviemore, Cairngorms, Highland Wildlife Park, or the various nearby lochs for a SUP,paddle or swim. 1 minutes walk from the shop or the closest of a few hotels and restaurants.
The house also has a lovely Japanese theme
Eric and Lynda are so nice and welcoming! They gave us great tips on things to do in the area and around Scotland. The room was very clean and they made us the best food we had on our entire trip! I would definitely recommend staying here!
Self catering, adequate accommodation for our family. Dougie was very helpful with all our needs and nothing was a problem to him. Great location for all activities nearby and surrounding areas within an hour's travel.
The Glen Hotel was spotless - our room and bathroom were incredibly clean and well presented with all facilities. The staff were charming and kind - they made a massive effort to make us feel welcome.
The staff were really friendly! Also a super dog friendly place. It was really nice to have an area in the dining room that was dog friendly. Comfy beds. Great value for money.
Clean, basic. cheap accomadation for a one night stay was perfect, no food available but plenty of hotels serving near by, host was very nice and could not do more to help.
