FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful old cities in the world. I have been visiting for over 50 years as my grandfather/ancestors were from here back to 1200's. Magical city. REALLY GREAT FOOD! Favorite restaurants: The Ivy, The Old Royal Cafe both above Princes Street in the new town. Best Haggis at the Old Royal Cafe.

Wow where to start. Edinburgh old town is awesome.

Wow where to start. Edinburgh old town is awesome. Plan on doing a LOT of walking and a LOT of stair climbing, The city is multilevel with its various levels connected by flights of ancient stone stairs, some having more than a hundred steps to navigate. You are however rewarded with many wonderful historic sites from castles to breathtaking churches and incredible architecture. Great selection of restaurants, pubs and nightlife as well. Had our fill of Scottish Haggis, great wine, and of course Scotch! Especially recommend the various fudge shops! Great times.

    A terrific city to visit.

A terrific city to visit. So much diverse history, and interest in all parts of the city. I would recommend using the hop on off busses, as not only a way to efficiently travel around the city, but so much information is imparted by the guide in person (Especially Tam / Tom) on the Green bus, he was informative, and very funny, ask him about Sean Connery. We will return.

It is worth booking some things in advance.

It is worth booking some things in advance. We missed out on Edinburgh castle as all tickets were sold out but other than that it is a great city. We didn't have a bad meal (we did not eat in the touristy area tbh!) and everyone was super friendly. We explored Old Town, went to some museums, went up St Arthur's seat and ate some lovely food.

I liked the sights I specifically wanted to see in Edinburg, but the city is too commercialized. Too many pubs with fatty foods, and not enough healthy food. Also there were not grocery stores near the Royal Mile. I felt fruit and vegetable deprived the whole time I was there. The city buses were never on time if they came at all. There needs to be more street signs! It is terribly difficult to navigate as a pedestrian with Google Maps. In most other cities outside the United Kingdom, I have not had this problem.

The room was quiet despite the hotel being really busy. The location suited us as central Edinburgh is not a good place to have a car and bus travel to/from the city centre was efficient and reasonably priced (even running late into the evening). For those who prefer taxis we noted a steady stream arriving/departing with other guests.
