Philipburn Hotel, BW Signature Collection, hotel in Selkirk

Best Western Plus Scottish Borders Selkirk Philipburn House is a luxury 4-star hotel on the outskirts of the beautiful Scottish Border town of Selkirk.

Buffet breakfast a total disaster. Plates cold and cooked items less than warm. The only think hot was the egg cooked to order . Room was fantastic.

A lovely small town with interesting statues of Mungo Park and Walter Scott. I didnt get a chance to look at the museum. But Loch Haining is well worth a visit and the 18th century house The Haining is in a spectacular location overlooking the loch and is going to make a spectacular wedding venue when restored. I spent a lovely Friday evening walking round the loch which is five minutes walk from the centre of Selkirk

We had a few hours to use before checking in to the Hotel so we went to Walter Scotts Court Room with a very entertaining guide - Julian? Also went to the museum with equally informative guide - sorry not sure of her name. Both are FREE as is the parking! Highly recoomend Peony Rose for food.

An interesting looking town that I would like to get to know better. Excellent meals out at the Fleece Inn and Kitchen and at Number One Bistro. The Riding of the Marches was on which showed the community spirit.

Selkirk is a small border town with small individual shops and cafes. We stayed 3 nights at Philipburn Hotel on the edge of Selkirk and really used it as a base to tour around other places in the borders, Floors Castle, Kelso, Melrose, Scotts View.

There's not a lot actually in Selkirk - it is suffering as are so many places with the impact of C-19, but it's a good base for Holy Island and the Roslyn Chapel. We booked the County Hotel as it's in the centre and as we were travelling by motorcycle wanted to be at somewhere that provided food or was available in walking distance.

Sonny was an excellent host. Starting with a with a warm welcome to the hotel, Sonny's knowledge of the history of the hotel and surrounding area gave a glimpse back in time. The decor of the hotel is very traditional, warm and inviting. The breakfast was wonderful. It was a traditional Scottish breakfast served in a beautifully decorated warm, inviting dining room. The service was friendly and the food was excellent.

Location. Selkirk is a lovely place to stay. The hotel is old but looked after. Family run and although there’s no restaurant they do allow guests to bring food in from the local takeaways (the chippy is great, as is the Taste of Spice). Room was spacious and clean. Smart tv meant we could watch netflix. Staff were friendly and attentive.

The hotel was very clean and the room was great with fantastic views of the hills. Tried to do some photography in the area but weather not playing ball for me. Just meant more time in bar for food and drink. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great visit. I will return very soon.

Family like atmosphere with very friendly and helpful hosts. Very rural and pretty setting. Able to use the location as a base to do 2 day trips out. You are able to get an evening meal there. Charm and character in the rooms. Chance to mix with other travelers in the hotel in the evening if you wish.

Breakfast was an option, but we opted instead to use the communal refrigerator and eat a cold breakfast that we purchased at the nearby market. We were offered the use of the area for dinner if we had wanted to get takeaway. That type of flexibility is nice when you have been traveling for a while.
