Fantastic views from the room & restaurant. Everything thought for outdoors: warming closet to dry your gear, easy-to-use ski storage, hot water to fill your thermos, free sauna in the evening. We even got a bit lighter blankets as we are used to 😊 Very nice breakfast and tasty dinners

The location of this place is stunning. It's among a handful of holiday cottages looking out over a beautiful lake which, when we were there, was just thawing. Because we were there in May we also had the place to ourselves but there's a reasonable distance between each place so I imagine it's not particularly noisy at any point. You can sit on the porch at the back in the morning and gaze out over the lake while songbirds flit round the birch trees nearby. Over the road from the house there is a forest where we heard woodpeckers and cuckoos on many occasions.
There's a big living/dining room with a wood stove (which we didn't use as the weather was hot), a reasonable kitchen. the main bedroom at the back - ie looking over the lake, then another room with bunk beds in and a third with two single beds at the front of the house. The shower's in the sauna area and the loo is separate at the opposite end of the house near the hallway. Probably a handy arrangement if it's a full house.
It's well set up for self catering and for groups who want to do outdoor activities - with a washing machine and drying cabinet etc. There was a file with instructions in several different languages. You need to set aside an hour before you leave to properly clean the place as that's in the Ts and Cs. This was the only cottage we stayed in during our time in Finland (we were there for four nights) and I would guess that this is probably the norm.
Worth knowing that the last few kilometres before the cottage are on gravel track. It's a pretty good one and we didn't have any issues
As well as the fantastic view, this is well placed for visiting the nearby Koli National Park, which we did on several occasions.

There is a good shop and hotel in the middle of the village, plus also another hotel on the top of the hill "Koli". Neart he village also "Räsävaara" observation tower allowing good views to the forest landscape and lake. Also the new hotel in the Kolinkylä village is easy to see from observation tower. You need a car to get around.

It's a small but cute little place with excellent hiking...
It's a small but cute little place with excellent hiking options. Few other locations along with Koli are close by in case you wish to see more. Very easy to get to see the Akka-, Ukko- and Paha-Koli and enjoy the view to lake Pielinen. I recommend to drive also to the harbour and see lake Pielinen also from the shore.
My stay at Paimentupa exceeded my expectations. The room at the granary was surprisingly spacious, and it was dark enough to have a good night's sleep during Finland's white nights.
My hosts were very friendly and helpful. The home-baked Karelian pasties were the highlight of a rich and tasty breakfast.
Paimentupa is located in the midst of idyllic countryside, just a stone's throw away from the cliffs of Koli National Park. The perfect place to stay if you want to visit Finland's most famous National landscape.
Very good location for the house (AP3), you can see the lake just from the window in the living room. Lot of space even for a big company (but take into account that there is only one shower in the house). The house is equipped with almost everything needed, a dishwasher / washing machine is available that is very nice. We were forced to buy our own cooking oil and sugar, but based on my experience these products should be available in such a kind of property.
Nice, clean, well equipped cottage (super sauna!) by the beautiful Pielinen lake, nearby the Koli National Park.
Good beds and blackout curtains will assure your night's sleep.
Helpful and friendly personnel, possibility to rent bicycles, sups and boats at a very reasonable price.
Dogs are very welcome. There's a nice pier and little beach for swimming, fishing and other water activities.
Wonderful cabin in the middle of the beautiful finnish nature, excellent view to the lake. Very quiet, almost no disturbance from vehicles. A 12 km drive from the Koli National Park, and on this drive we saw cranes, black grouses and a moose. The cabin is spacious, clean and it contains all you need.
We had an amazing and relaxing stay! The staff was friendly, helpful and we also got treats for our dog from staff. <3 The spa was great with nice views and hiking in Koli was accessible and pleasant. Also, the restaurant served delicious food and nice service. Thank you for the pleasant experience!
