My friends and I had an amazing time at at this beautiful house in Santa Elena. The house was incredibly clean, the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and the bedrooms and private bathrooms helped everyone feel comfortable. A historic site of a battle centuries ago. The deep gorge is highly defensible and a dramatic faulted landscape split in two by the gorge full of wild life. Take the old road down through the gorge as the autovia now ignores it as it skims above along its dramatic viaduct and tunnels. Leaving the valley a lovely place to stroll and picnic.
Santa Elena on the hilltop was once bustling with merchant traffic and roadside inns. Now a sleepy backwater but great starting out point for mountain and gorge rambles. Great meals in the hotel and a nearby bar/restaurant. Great stopover southwards after boring Castillian meseta. Or heading north, a perfect place to pause for a night and one last glimpse at Andalucia.
This was a good stopover hotel for us. Big rooms so plenty of room for us and the dogs, two big Labradors! . Room was a bit old fashioned but spotlessly clean . Breakfast was very simple but OK for us as not big breakfast people so a coffee and tostada was enough to get us on our way. Good value for money hotel very close to the motorway so perfect location was a stopover on our way home. Best of all the staff were great and very helpful.
This hotel is perfect for stop over if travelling deeper into Spain ,people working there super polite and friendly, breakfast is beyond basic but no real complaints as price for stay is fair ,will definitely use again ,finding hotel was difficult first time ( poor direction given by booking.com advert ) of course is simple once you have found
