We have never stayed anywhere so clean! Everywhere was pristine 😀
Situated in lovely countryside, and only a short drive into the town.
Set next to the Arantzazu Sanctuary, Goiko-Benta Ostatua is a traditional Basque country house.

Everything was exceptional, from our welcome, to our room, to the meals, to the location, to the hotel building itself.
The staff at this family-run hotel were so friendly and helpful, and we felt really at home in this fabulous Inn, dating from the 1500s and full of character.
The evening meal in the restaurant was excellent over each of our 3 nights, testified by the large number of Spanish diners.
We will be back...
Just a little note to future guests: our room looked over the monastery so we could hear the bells tolling a regular tune...but happily the bells did not toll from 10pm to 8am !

I didn’t actually visit Oñati this time, instead I selected to go there for the hiking opportunities that offer a really nice experience.
I did the “PR-GI 3006 La Senda de Urbia” and I really recommend it as a half day activity. Great views and lots of horses and other animals along the way.
Another activity I’m happy to recommend is the guided tour of the Arrikrutz cave. The caves are impressive on their own and the guide really added another dimension of interest with context and explanations.

It's beautiful village, surrounding by mountains.
It's beautiful village, surrounding by mountains. We didnt realize that the village has old and important histories for the surrounding. It has an oldest university and very beautiful in Basque Country.

On the town itself, I did not find all that much to see.
On the town itself, I did not find all that much to see. Besides the old university building and the town square, I found some old facades on the streets off the main square.
The surroundings are the reason I will be back - the hills and the wooded areas are really nice.
Situated in the old part of the town but close to the square and the main road, so ideal for sightseeing and exploring the countryside.
The hotel is old, but the room was large, as was the bathroom.
The owner spoke no English but we understood each other and she was very attentive.
Beds were comfortable and we were able to watch BBC news 24.
Breakfast was Continental but very enjoyable, especially the omelettes!
The hotel was lovely and although we were there for 2 nights it was only possible to eat in the retaurant on one of the nights but we both had a fantastic meal there on the Saturday evening. The staff were warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. The bar steward was very obliging and recommended a new gin to try and it was very nice.
Excellentnall round
A really great hotel in a great location. We arrived late because of traffic delays, but we were able to get a light meal in the cafeteria. Room large and very comfortable. Breakfast good. Location spectacular.
