It was a reasonable choice for my one-night stopover while traveling. The location was ideal, with proximity to Gibraltar.
Globales Reina Cristina was originally opened in 1901 and houses ancient ruins, such as parts of an 8th-century Mosque and a Moorish well. It features indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Overall it is one of the better hotels I have stayed in in 25 years of traveling.
A good location within easy walking distance to many places of interest and facilities.
Set just minutes from the beach, the Hotel Mirador’s rooms boast free internet connection, and large balconies from which you can admire great views of Algecira Bay.

The location is nice, just ask for the rooms with sea-view, preferably in the upper floor
Room terrace is large, you can see both Gibraltar and the nearby port.
If there is not public parking place available (quite often, since a lot of people want to park around and go to beach), u can park in the hotel garrage (and pay...).
Situated on the edge of the Los Alcornocales Nature Reserve, this rural eco-resort offers an outdoor pool, bar and free Wi-Fi zone.

Our cabin had a lovely location and was well fitted out. The swimming pool was great. Karin and Elena were very welcoming and helpful. It was a great base for our birding expeditions and thoroughly recommended.

Algeciras has some beautiful parts, in the old city the Moorish architecture is really quite something. There are some rougher parts sure, as with any large port town. But I found it safe, the people friendly and the food was great, especially El Taller restaurant.
Nearby beach Playa el Rinconcillo was fine. But Algeciras isn't like some beautiful Mediterranean coasted resort destination, it's a fairly gritty Spanish port with some beautiful architecture and passable beaches, cheap and cheerful with easy access to TARIFA where you can get a ferry to Tangiers and visit nearby roman ruins or visit very nearby Gibraltar.

It is a great place to get ferries to Morocco or to get the shuttle to Tarifa to do the same.
I have been before and found it to be a pleasant small town with a good patisserie/bakery that had Moroccan foods (briouwats, mini pastilla, etc).
The reason for the 'average' rating of the town stems from the fact that the place I booked was unhelpful and would not allow me to access the property at midnight even though I had paid in advance. As a result I was stranded and had to wander about at night, sleep on a too short stone bench and cat nap until the FRS ticket offices opened.
Algeciras is reasonably easy to navigate on foot. There are some cafés by the central market that open early for the traders. There is also a Carrefour express in the area between the train Station and the port with a full selection of goods.
I cannot rate 'Conv3nient R00ms - F3rry, Tr@in & Bus $tation' as I was not allowed entry to the property at midnight (late trains, missed connections) having paid for in advance my room. Unfortunately the proprietor was not helpful and I was left wandering the streets all night as not other hostals were open. A cold night with a very short stone bench! (Perhaps this is a rating?) I would avoid this place on my next visit and look for a better rated (more expensive hostal/hotel.
I would love to return yet again to Algeciras under better conditions and have an actual 'holiday there, rather than using it merely as a travel interchange. The town looks lovely and no doubt has things to offer away from the mildly salubrious Tran Station/Port area.

Gibraltar can not be reached by train, and one needs to stay a night somewhere to explore Gibraltar. Algeciras is ideal for this stay, and if you are here, then spend some hours for walking Algeciras,

After being in Marocco for 2 months, it felt like I was still in Marocco, but at the bus station, you can get a bus ticket to Madrid for €21.78, it's a 9 hr bus ride and only makes a 30 min stop, but it was worth it, didn't like Algeciras, but the stay at the Hostel was brilliant, only thing the property needs to do is, undated on how you enter the property.

A much more authentic experience of a Spanish small city/town. Less busy than most other locations in this area and we loved it. We could easily have stayed a week. Very good tuna combo plate at Maridaje.

We weren't intending to stay here but had an extra day due to the ferry cancellation. The centre was small enough to walk round and was interesting enough without having anything really noteworthy.
Nice hotel in the city centre, large beds, large bathroom, excellent breakfast, parking in a garage under the hotel (entrance from the bus station and extra charged 10 € per day, as explained in the condidtions), dinner in a restaurant with reasonable prices
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Free car park right next to the hotel. The car park was spacious and easy to get in and out. The room spacious and light filled.
