The hotel was stunning and we selected a junior suite, which whilst nice and roomy with an excellent view due to the large windows in front and the back, was very hot and if you opened the front windows, became noisy as it was one a front road.

Picturesque town along the Mosel river. It’s small!
Picturesque town along the Mosel river. It’s small! You can see everything (twice) in one day. 😆 and for young travelers, be warned that the average age is at least 70 here. Lots of old tourists in Cochem. 😊

It was our first time here. What a beautiful place.
It was our first time here. What a beautiful place. The hilllsides are full of grapevines. We walked up to the castle and had a brilliant English speaking guide. It was very interesting with breath-taking views of the town and the river. There are so many restaurants and shops in this lovely town. Also took the cable car up the mountain for more spectacular views.
Lots of river cruisers passing through and also plenty of tourist cruise boats to enable you to soak up the countryside. We took a boat tour to a few towns along the river where we stopped for an hour or so. The cruise boat collected us for the return journey.
We spent 4 nights in Cochem in August 2024 and the weather was very hot, which made our stay even better. It is only about 40 minutes drive to the Nurburgring which is worth a visit too. We were on motorcycles and there are lots of places to visit nearby. Lots of motorcycles in the town but nothing boisterous.

This is a good centre if you want a lot of restaurants and a lively environment. If you prefer something a bit quieter I suggest a smaller village, there are plenty of places to choose from!.
There is a lot to see in Cochem, so if the weather is bad there is still something to do.

Cochem is a wonderful holiday location.
Cochem is a wonderful holiday location. It is stunning by the river with the magnificent castle dominating the skyline. A great base to explore the river Mosel. It has numerous bars and restaurants. As a small town It is large enough to be interesting but small enough to be comfortable. It does get busy in high season but that is part of it's charm. Lots of Mosel boat trips start and finish at Cochem.
Some of the villages on the river are very pretty but are likely to be too small and very quiet in the evenings, meaning a drive into Cochem to find "civilisation" and the obvious restrictions for the driver. So I recommend you stay in Cochem itself.
Three important bits of information, Most restaurants and cafe's do not have English menu's (most visitors are German), and many smaller locations only accept cash payments. There is no bank in Cochem but there are thee ATM cash machines. I used an ATM with my UK debit card expecting the cash to be debited from the "Euro Wallet" linked to the account. The cash was debited from my UK current account. I suspect it was because the three ATM's were not bank ATM's. A cash withdrawal at a branch of Volksbank at another location was debited from my Euro Wallet.

Cochem is very beautiful little town near the river, with a wonderful palace, cable lift to a hill with the beautiful panorama views; you can take a boat to visit more old and beautiful villages. Mustard museum is also worth visiting: at least the shop and tasting german sausage with one or two mustard sauces.
Restaurants are not all the same quality. The first evening in Cochem we visited Burg Hotel with a nice terrace and real german food (in menu), but the meals were too dry and not tasty. The best restaurant we were eating in Cochem is italian restaurant Costello, a little bit further from a centrum, but with very tasty food!
In Cochem itself we were going everywhere by foot: it is small place, not worth taking a car to reach nearby places.

Cochem is a quaint German traditional town with an old worldy town and narrow streets to wonder around the shops, restaurants & bars. We liked one bar in particular that played 60’s music and we quizzed ourselves of the title and artist and had fun. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
The roads either side of the river do actually follow the rivers wands and bends so you can drive from Koblenz to Trier by the river Model mostly all the way, it takes some time but well worth it , or just do part and stop at little towns on the way. The town of Bern Kastel & the fairy tale like Eltz castle are 2 different places worth a visit.
No manned reception after 6pm but this was communicated clearly and in a very friendly manner in advance. Clear instructions received in advance about how to retrieve key for car parking and key for room. All worked out as described without fault upon arrival at 7pm. Comfortable and quiet room. Hotel is within comfortable walking distance of the centre of Cochem. Great breakfast. Very friendly staff. No problem with delaying check-out until 12 noon.
A fabulous quaint hotel situated right in the heart of Cochem. The room we had overlooked the Mosel River through leafy trees. Plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from on your doorstep. A short 10 minute walk from the train station making this property very accessible. The breakfast was outstanding making your morning selections difficult. We ,loved our stay in this beautiful hotel.
Breakfast very good selection, pity you have a fixed time to dine. Hotel was clean, a lot of rules, would be handy to have information book in room, for hotel and cochem info, Wifi in room was none existent, when we complained we were told to use in reception area.
Nice hotel in general staff very friendly and helpful
The hotel.was family owned and the owner was very nice and accommodating. Breakfast was ok but not a wide selection. It was quite decent for the amount paid. Hotel is just accross the bridge to the main center of Cochem therefore very accessible to the shops.
The location of this hotel was good and Cochem is a lovely place to visit!
Rooms were a good size and the whole hotel was very clean.
Breakfast was a great selection!
