The staff were really friendly and helpful. Explained the area, what places to visit, how to get tickets and picked me up and dropped me off at the station.
A beautiful boutique hotel and I had a great simple room. They had gone out of their way to provide just about everything you need
The location is ideal, a very short walk to the old town.
Very handy for restaurants and bars.

We had an amazing time at Elsewhere Hotel. The hotel is located in the old city centre of Pingyao, and it is an old building in Chinese style. When we arrived, we had a warm welcome with a cup of tea. The staff is really friendly, and they speak English very well. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a hotel with greater hospitality!
The staff helped us with tickets for several attractions in the old city.
We really recommend to stay at this hotel!

Our stay at the Water Hotel was absolutely incredible from start to finish. We were met by a driver at the train station to bring us to the hotel and the same was also organised for us to bring us back to the train station the next day all at no extra cost. The hotel is excellently situated in the middle of the ancient city. The room was beautifully decorated and beyond comfortable and clean. The reception staff were so professional and helpful. They helped us buy tickets to access scenic spots around the ancient city. It's a pity we could only stay the one night, we would have loved to stay longer.

Beautiful accommodation at the centre of ancient city of Pingyao in the bustling South Street. The owner and staff are very friendly, warm and helpful. They picked us up from the station and brought us to Ancient City (cars are not allowed inside) and also brought us on the day of departure, both for very reasonable fees, because we were with 5, too many for a taxi.
The hotel and rooms were in a traditional style, allowing for great pictures. The beds and cushions were very comfortable for us. The bathroom and toilet are combined in a small room, but it wasn't bothersome. The owner knows the nearby shops and good spots to go to, definitely ask for tips.
We enjoyed our 2 nights and 3 days in Pingyao a lot, definitely recommended.

Beautiful ancient city, and you still can feel the daily normal leaving of its inhabitants. Liked the most to have 99.9999% chinese tourist at this time of the year, Mid March. Only 4 westerners encountered. Chinese History at its best. Lots of historical places to visit and learn from ancient China. Unmissable for local and foreigner travellers.

Incredibly beautiful town, totally made up of traditional Chinese architecture (at least on the main streets). You can buy a ticket that allows entry into many of the sites, including the Draft Bank, Temple of the City God, Confucius Temple and so many more, and then spend a day wandering around exploring them as you come across them. (Note that some of the smaller ones have almost no English signs, so it can be difficult to know what they are!). We bought the ticket from a window nearby (1 minute east) of the draft bank, but there may be other places. It's also interesting to go up the City Walls and see the town from above.

Fantastic historic walled town where you can easily escape the tourist area. Very very unique however Pollution was a big problem during our stay as it is in the midde of a huge area full of factories. We spent the 2 days with our masks on.

We visited in November so starting to get chilly at night. The numerous museums are interesting and give a good idea of times past. Great food in town but one or two restaurant and shop owners give more hustle than we'd like. Not too many tourists at the time we visited and we pretty much had the whole wall to ourselves. The old town is a comfortable size to walk around over 2 days. The 3 day "tourist pass" is well worth the price we paid.

For dinner: a little bit away from the busy street you will find cheaper option. Or just try some small bites here and there.

We were there for 2 nights, 2 days.
We were there for 2 nights, 2 days. We arrived Friday at about 6pm and enjoyed walking around the old city, had a "fish in tank nibbling off dead skin off our feet" experience! Saturday we took a taxi to Wang's Family Compound, 50 km away. This is well worth doing - we took 3 hours to viist the compound which reminded us of a cross betwen the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.... On the way back we stopped at Shuanglin Temple - we only had 30 minutes there before it closed but it was more than enough - and I'd say this is very missable. Saturday evening we went to the excellent 20 minute 8pm laser show where they project historic scenes of Ping Yao onto the outside southern City Wall and the Yingxun Gate. Worth watching. Sunday we walked round some of the main historic sights including the Ancient Government Building, Ri Sheng Chang & the Residence of Ma's Family - all recommended.
The hotel is excellent. They came and pick us up and dropped us off at the train station. They communicated with us and arranged the transportation to arrive at the facility. The hotel has an excellent location, right in the Pingyao main street. There are lots of restaurant and dining options available. The room was really comfortable and clean. The hotel lobby (patio) was astonishing and very welcoming to the visitor. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel staff was really friendly and kind. We will stay again at this hotel!
Very great location and more than anything great and helpful staff, an always smiling and friendly kitchen chef :) and the owner helped us to arrange tickets to the Youjian Pingyao show (don't miss it!), Breakfast was basic Chinese breakfast but good, and we had dinner in the restaurant every night. We were afraid that we would get back pain from the beds (Kang Style bed means a brick / wood underground and a thin mattress), but unless you have severe back problems, you'll sleep well here.
The best value for money you can ever find on this website!!!
Loved the location on South Avenue in Pingyao Ancient City. The front is a restaurant with rooms in the back after going through a traditional courtyard. The rooms are renovated and up to date. The bed was comfortable!!!
Most importantly, the hostess was extremely kind and helpful. She explained everything (in English) and provided a plan to best explore town.
Really don’t think twice before booking this gem of a place!
The hotel has wonderful decor and atmosphere. We loved sitting in the lovely courtyard balcony with a cool drink after a day of sightseeing. The hotel is in a quieter side street, which is ideal for peaceful sleep but only a few mins from the busier part of the old town. The host was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. We were running late for our train and he graciously took us to nearby taxi rank on his scooter - with a smile. Lovely Pingyao and lovely hotel!
Lovely family run guesthouse in a great quiet location, yet close to everything. The beds are great and the rooms cosy - and the old courtyard is just amazing. So is the service and hospitality. Not speaking much Chinese my friends and I were very happy with all the help we got from the kind owner and his family. Thank you for a great stay in beautiful Pingyao❤️
1) excellent location
2) loved the courtyard, a beautiful & quiet place where we had our breakfast
3) helpful staff with excellent services
eg. upgraded our room to deluxe king room,
helped to book《又见平遥》show tickets,
to arrange pingyao ancient city tour guy for us
Staying at the Pingyao Ji Family Courtyard Inn was rather magical. The staff free upgraded my room. Every time I exited or returned she immediately came outside and asked if I needed anything. The staff speak English so well made my trip easier. It's a special place.
The location was great and there was a good atmosphere. The room itself was quite warm and cozy. Breakfast was pretty tasty local cuisine. Very communicative - easy to coordinate a train station pick up and drop off vi a hotel
location in Pingyao old city was best.
The location is far from the high-speed train station, but the hotel provides a pick-up service. So, you don't need to worry about the distance between the hotel and the station
Great location, authentic 200yr old courtyard house renovated to very high boutique hotel standards. Most importantly what makes it special is genuine hospitality received from staff at all levels. Top level service.
Beautifully renovated 270-old house with all the modern comfort. Extremely helpful professional staff. In a centrally located ancient city of Pingyao, but off the mob of tourists roads
Beautiful house and calming atmosphere, very nice staff, very good food in the hotel’s restaurant. As the hotel is located inside the city wall, all the important sights are nearby.
The hotel is quite, good for relaxation. The boss is a nice person, he will tell you where can go where to eat. He is Really a honest person. Highly recommend.
Very nice courtyard hotel. It sets you back in time. Very well decorated. Staff is friendly and provides pick up from the main entrance of the ancient city.
