Gazing up at the star-filled night sky of Valle del Elqui in Chile from the comfort of our bed, looking up through the rooftop windows of our dome cabin at the Hotel Observatorio Tukum Mapu is a memory we will take with us always. We enjoyed a truly unique experience in our fully equipped, two-bedroom dome, along with an abundant and delicious breakfast served on the terrace alongside the pool. The day we arrived we had a great lunch in El Sauce Restaurant, which is on the same premises. The piano, played by our host James, and the wonderful artwork, created by our hostess Alita, provided a very welcoming and comfortable ambience. Their hospitality, friendliness and genuine care made our stay in Vicuña such a magical moment.

The room and bathroom are designed very beautifully - with an artistic touch! Everything was conmfortable. Just a 5 minute drive from Vicuña, which has restaurants, shops etc. the garden is lovely and so are the dogs and cat! The host was very helpful with suggestions of places to visit and eat. The words in this review will never do justice to our incredible stay at Hostal El Colibri, or do justice to the hospitality of Richard and his excellent staff. Richard is not only the best hostel owner we have come across during our travels in South America, but he is one of the most special people I have ever met in my entire life. The Elqui valley and Vicuña is a beautiful place with a unique energy - and Richard makes you feel this from the moment you are introduced. If I could give his hostel 100 stars I would - oh, and seeing the stars in the Elqui valley is a MUST. Likewise, the Lebanese eggs at breakfast are a MUST. Thank you Richard for a stay I will never forget.
