Didn't like the early closure times of most eating establishments. Difficult to obtain a good light meal late afternoon and early evening.

My spouse and I had a few days to spend between our completed Alaska cruise and then flying to Europe for an additional 3 weeks of vacation so we decided on visiting Vancouver Island, a place neither of us had ever been to. We chose not to rent a car and travelled via BC Connect, a bus company which worked out perfectly.
We thoroughly enjoyed Victoria, a beautiful small city of 400K residents, half retired. Lots of things of interest for everyone including a tour of the Provincial Gov't buildings. Excellent choice of restaurants other than The Spaghetti Warehouse which was terrible!

I come from a small city and I found the traffic heavy. We were here for a family get-together so did not do much sightseeing this time, but I know the views of the harbour are beautiful and the wharf is interesting. We did not do a carriage ride this time but we will next time.

It has been years since I visited the inner harbour area.
It has been years since I visited the inner harbour area. It is beautiful with the great walking path all the way around to the cruise ship terminal.
We had dinner at a nearby restaurant by walking 20 minutes.
Great area to visit with the lovely homes, ambience and oceanfront
The location of this hotel is excellent, well within walking distance of the ferry port, as well as great shopping and restaurants. Victoria is a very walkable city. I loved the room. A two story, two bedroom suite. The bathroom was large and clean. The pull out couch down stairs was comfortable. The beds in the two bedrooms up stairs are extremely comfortable. There is a nice kitchen and the whole space is comfortable and well decorated, with interesting art on the walls even. I was very impressed at the value for the price!
This hotel is in a great location for exploring Victoria by foot. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable. We enjoyed having a small kitchen where we made breakfast and had snacks. On a Thursday night we had a drink in the restaurant and really enjoyed a performance by Dylan on guitar. Great songs and a good voice. All and all it was a good stay and we will definitely book this hotel again. Unfortunately it is often full and hard to get a reservation.
Well maintained older hotel that is kept in perfect condition. Large spacious rooms with comfortable beds and lots of room for furniture (not crammed in like newer, smaller hotel rooms). Quiet and peaceful with the nice extras such as plush towels and quality linen. Pool, spa, games room, library are nice. Enjoyed an excellent breakfast on our last morning. Perfect location, we parked our vehicle and walked all over Victoria's downtown area. We always stay here when visiting Victoria.
we asked for an upgrade and the staff at front desk moved rooms around espedited cleaning our room spending alot of time and effort to accomodate us. We had checked in for two nights and had to cancel the 2nd night just before check out time with out hesitation the manager waved all cancellation cost and did it with a smile, much apprciated by us.The location of the hotel could not be better if you want to explore Victorias downtown everything is right outside the front doors.
James Bay Inn was a wonderful Hotel within walking distance of Victoria downtown. It had a pub and restaurant which, because of our later arrival we decided to go to. We were not disappointed. We stayed in the one bedroom suite with a pullout couch. The owners also allowed our friend to leave her bags at the hotel after we checked out, as her ferry to Seattle was much later than ours to Vancouver.
i have lived in victoria for 20 years and know this property well ,if you want to go downtown its 15 mins in a car or taxi, the hosts are great the bedrooms more than adequate ,better than staying in a downtown hotels,i will now forget the downtown hotels with cramped rooms and little views ,this is the best way to see all of downtown out of your bedroom window .
The staff was busy, but maintained friendliness and efficiency. The location couldn't have been better for us as it was right across the street from the Victoria Clipper. It was very easy to walk around the Inner Harbour from the hotel. The price was right for a one night stay.
The views and location are the best. Love the Victorian style, decor, and rooms. The breakfast is a nice addition to the stay. We have been here 7 times and always love it. Actually a very quiet stay for so close to downtown. Close to everything and very clean.
Best location to stay in the heart of Victoria downtown. Everything is walking distance. The room is cozy, homey and clean. I didn't know it was pay parking until I saw my billing. Otherwise, this place will always be our recommended space to stay.
The hotel is in a great location in downtown Victoria. The room was comfy, stylish and beautifully renovated. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, particularly when we requested an early check in to attend a wedding!
If you want to experience downtown Victoria, the location is perfect. It is an easy walk to Chinatown in one direction and The Empress in the other. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, pubs, shopping, and the wharf area.
I loved the location of James Bay Inn, the neighbourhood is charming and interesting, close to downtown Victoria. I loved the friendly staff and their most helpful guidance to my questions about James Bay Inn and the area.
Great location, nice breakfast. Had the lofted room with a kitchen. TV location was tricky as was getting cool air up to the loft, but we would recommend this place as a great downtown Victoria location.
close to downtown but not at a walkable distance, however; these are small harbour ferries that have a dock directly across the sea walk from the hotel. View across the harbour is great
Great location very close to downtown Victoria.
The room was nice with a view on the BC parliament building.
The staff was also very nice. We really enjoyed our stay here
Free parking
Pretty much everything. Clean, classy, staff was delightful, breakfast was great! I’m a San Francisco girl, but if I ever go to Victoria again, I am calling Abigail’s hotel.
The security features around the hotel made me very comfortable. I was so happy to see them. It's such a great location for visiting Victoria. The staff were so lovely.
