The entry to Ucluelet from the Tofino side is not welcoming at all. It’s a bit run down. But that shouldn’t put you off because there are some nice places to eat, a good bakery, and amazing walks. The Wild Pacific Trail is a must. Also, as you get deeper into Ucluelet it is less rundown. They should work on that first impression though.

Ukee is a great little town.
Ukee is a great little town. Although we bought a piece of art there, it offers much wilderness than shopping opportunities.
In addition to its unpretentious charm, Ukee offers a more pocket-friendly experience than its neighbour, Tofino, in our experience (although everything is more expensive here than the rest of Vancouver Island.)
However, both places have incredible beaches and forests, and bookend the National Park with a trail between the two towns.
Just be warned that the last part of the highway is an adventure before you decide to turn left to go to Ukee or right to go to Tofino.
I loved driving it with my "Mario Andretti" mindset, which wasn't that pleasant for my husband, LOL.
It's windy, narrow, and bumpy in parts, and if you have a slow poke in front of you (which we had on the way back), it can be incredibly frustrating.

I loved Ucluelet a whole lot more than Tofino, it isn't as touristy and "plastic", like the difference between Banff and Jasper, I always prefer the place closer to nature. Maybe doesn't have all the sandy beaches, but one can easily drive to it. I'd love it if the information about the length of the walks to beaches etc. were more clear, even on the hike, like where we are now and how long to go etc. Beauty in abundance, I loved every minute of it, I remembered it from 10 years ago and it was even better now. I'd love to come back for more and be able to just sit and listen to the ocean. Please, please don't let it become Tofino where you can't enjoy what rightfully belongs to the public without paying more than you can afford! I love Ucluelet! <3

Ukee is great place to visit any time of the year.
Ukee is great place to visit any time of the year. The beaches are more rugged than Tofino which makes for dramatic storm watching on windy days. There are some good restaurants and a grocery store, liquor store etc. If you're looking for raging night life, this is not the place. If you're into being outside, it's great. There are tons of trails, beaches and lookouts to explore.

Wild Pacific Trail was highlight; Jiggers Fish n Chip truck is a MUST for the freshest & tastiest good quality meal. Proximity to the beaches and National park and Tofino, but without the tourists.

Loved the proximity to the ocean.
Loved the proximity to the ocean. Great hiking trails in the area and quite a few good restaurants. Enjoyed the low key, unpretentious vibe. We aren’t surfers but it looks like a fantastic place to surf.
Location! Location! as they say. Perfectly quiet at night, not too much hassle of a day time, this hotel is exactly what I was looking for to spend a few days away from the city and ride a bike on the new trail from Ucluelet to Tofino. Great trail, almost finished exept some 900 m by the intersection. Our room had a nice view over the small craft harbor which is an entertainment by itself. Kitchen was well equipped and living room was spacious and clean. Free parking next to you suite is a great bonus here.
It's a really nice secluded camping area way off road. It's calm and peaceful and the owner is super cool.
If you're looking for a good outdoor experience, then this is it.
Keep in mind, this is not a luxury experience. It's basically camping in a cabin with a heater. Don't expect hotel luxuries like electricity, wi fi or running water. These cabins were literally built from scratch by the owner, so you will have a roof over your head and a mattress.
If you're looking for a nice, very clean and comfortable place to stay and don't mind that the suite is attached to the home of the owners, it's an excellent choice of stay for Ucluelet. Downtown is walking distance with plenty of food and drink options also within walking distance. We did enjoy our stay there and will recommend to others but I don't think we will return ourselves.
We stayed in the "honeymoon suite" which has a great view of the harbor behind. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony with wine watching the boats and sailplanes coming and going. The hotel has a lot of Asian sculpture and artworks displayed around the property, gives it a very cool vibe. Easy walking to one of the best fish and chips places you'll ever find, Jiggers. We'll be back.
Great location for the hotel and close to a lot of shops and restaurants. We had a decent view, and was curious with these slow times and not many guests, that they put us in a room with not much view? We could've been on 2nd floor. The rooms inside were great and very roomy. The person checking us in very nice and helpful. Would have loved to stay longer.

Our room was very quiet, very clean and quite comfortable. We appreciated having a comfy couch to relax on. The owners were very friendly and helpful with advice about local sights. I can definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting the area. In fact, I'm glad we stayed in low-key Ucluelet instead of Tofino which is nice but more touristy.
We were thrilled with our ocean view and we were able to keep our door open to hear the waves all night. That was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was so clean. The rooms were so nice and exceeded our expectations. We loved how close we were to the beaches and hiking trails. We had a wonderful stay.
great view from the comfortable room (pictures here do not do the view justice). tasty light breakfast every morning. perfect peaceful vacation in Ucluelet. definitely recommend to anyone visiting the Ucluelet and Torino area.
This is a delightful quiet gem— located in the woods above a beach. We were in the lodge but there are also many cabins. It was comfortable and cozy to stay in but also hiking trails and other outdoor adventure are nearby.
We loved the location in Ucluelet close to walking on trails and beaches. We were really impressed with the way that the cabins were situated within the green space with forest and flowering bushes.
Right on the water with a view of the small harbour from our window. Easy walking distance to everything in Ucluelet. Very helpful and friendly staff. We extended our stay by several days.
large well equipped room with kitchenette
lovely park like area at back with picnic tables and visit from deer with twin fawns
thoughtful accommodation for special needs child
The spectacular Black Rock Resort never disappoints. The breath-taking setting, beautiful architecture, and wonderful staff combine to create a getaway you won’t forget.
Close to walking trails and stores. No car required. Located in Ucluelet not over commercialized like Tofino. Price is still affordable for our West Coast visits.
