We loved Alert Bay Lodge. It's rather quirky and clearly a labour of love for the owners Nina and Scott. There is an amazing communal space where you will find some really interesting objects and First Nations art. As well as comfy sofas and a lovely fire, tea and coffee is available. It is a wonderful open area to spend the evenings. From here you can access a veranda with incredible views over the water.
The location is amazing, we saw orca in the water right outside the lodge!
Nina and Scott are very friendly and engaging hosts. There was some healthy competition going on between them with their breakfasts.
We had an early excursion on our first morning so Scott made us breakfast rolls to go, which were great. On our second morning we had pancakes made by Scott which were very nice but on our third morning we had pancakes made by Nina which were sublime (sorry Scott)
We loved our stay here and would definitely return.

This one-bedroom house on the bluff overlooking the harbour with amazing views was a superb location for our 3 night stay on Cormorant Island. Cormorant is a magical place and the Village of Alert Bay is amazingly welcoming and friendly. We attended the 65th Anniversary celebration of the local library/museum, toured U'Mista Cultural Centre, walked the Ecological Park trails and soaked in the local atmosphere in the Village shops, shopped for gifts at Culture Shock where you can find the best coffee in the Bay.

We stayed in Port Mc Neill for 3 nights and used it as a base for seeing sights outside of the location. We caught a ferry across to Alert Bay and the journey was totally hassle free.
It was easy to leave the car at our accommodation and board as foot passengers.
We also visited Port Alice, Telegraph Cove and local areas.

Port McNeill is a quaint town on North Vancouver island.
Port McNeill is a quaint town on North Vancouver island. There are excellent roads with sidewalks, zero traffic jams, and sufficient restaurants and bars. Because it is located on a hillside, there are excellent ocean views everywhere, which is excellent.

Nice spot to spend a night or two, stroll the waterfront walkway, see the worlds largest Burl, visit the local museum with a great display of the towns history. Stop in at Mugz 2.0 for coffee and an amazing Cinnamon bun! It's all within walking distance. Try Devil's Bath Brewing and Gus's Pub for great drinks and good food and take a ferry to Alert Bay.

So many interesting things to do in Port McNeill. Fishing, exploring, rock hounding. Days trips to Port Alice, Telegraph Cove, Port Hardy. There is a food truck down by the water called Lata's Kitchen. Absolutely the best fish and chips I have ever had.

It is a quiet little town with a nice harbour to take a stroll. While walking at the harbour it was my first time to really see a bald eagle so close, it didn’t flew away while I was taking pictures of it. Food at Gus’ Pub was excellent, I’m glad there is a good place to eat at a small town. They also have a mall with a grocery store, Subwsy, Chinese restaurant and quite everything you might need while on a trip that you can’t live without. The long drive was beautiful too, the highway is scenic. The town is clean and so quiet and peaceful.

Port Mc Neill is a good location from which to explore Port Hardy, Telegraph Creek, Little Huson Caves Regional Park, Alert Bay and Sointula. It is a samll town, hence no traffic jams or line ups for anthing😊. One must be prepared for rain on the North Island andI did manage to buy a good raincoat.
The Dalewood Hotel restaurant has a large selection of most delicious foods on offer and they are strict about enforcing the covid protocols which is reassuring in this time of pandemic.
Basic hotel. We stayed during Covid. Comfortable...but stark.. no pictures on the bright white walls. There is no access to Netflix through their TV...that was a big bummer because their TV only had very basic cable. Both my sister and I like to fall asleep to nature shows on Discovery/Netflix and we had trouble getting to sleep due to lack of access to Netflix. On the good side the hotel is well located around the corner from the marina... with a coffee shop on the way..seriously it was a 2 minute walk to the marina. Very nice.
Conveniently located in Port McNeill, a basic motel when you need a place to stay overnight in this region. It is dated and out-of-fashion but it does the job: big rooms, clean, hot shower and comfy beds. It also has a fridge and a coffee maker, which is great to grab a quick home-made breakfast before leaving.
Staff was nice and accomodating, when I called to know how late there would be someone at the reception as we were unsure on when we would get there, they offered to leave the keys for us should we come late.
We booked on a wrong date by mistake and was charged for No show. But they gave us a discount on the day we arrived.
It was Canada Day weekend and rate was suppose to be higher but they gave us the lower rate that was for the wrong date that we have booked. Breakfast
Buffet is always good and plenty of choices at this hotel, this was our 3rd time to have stayed here.
Staying at the cabin was the best part of visiting Port McNeill. It was clean, roomy, comfortable... had a lovely ocean view; tucked away from the main city. We felt very fortunate to have found this place! We met Lisa upon arrival. She gave us a few brochures on what to do in the area. Which led us to exploring the Huson Caves on our return home. Thanks Lisa!
This place is something what you are looking for. Great price, great location, very quiet. Our room was super clean, some 4-stars hotels are not as clean as this one. The staff is super friendly, willing to help you if you need it. Restaurants and port (Ferry) is just 5 minutes walk. Good location for day trips to Telegraph cove or Port hardy.
Short distance from Port McNeill. Quiet location. We were there for 4 days to explore the Northern part of Vancouver Island and this was an ideal situation. We liked the fact that the cabins were spread out over the acreage. The amenities were good and the cabin was nicely furnished. The views were spectacular.
Squeaky clean, freshly painted, and comfortable bed. Wonderfully welcoming and informative staff, about places to see in the area. Nice size fridge. Microwave.
Handy location near the ferry and downtown.
THe food and service in the attached restaurant were great for us travellers.
I was impressed with how clean it was. I would have no trouble recommending the Humpback Inn to friends. It was exactly what we needed for our mini vacation to the northern island. A great place to use as a home base as we explored Port McNeill and Malcolm Island.
The location is good (nothing in Port McNeill is very far away), the staff was super friendly and helpful and they had a storage place for our bags while we were out sea kayaking for 6 days - thanks! The room is average size with comfortable beds.
The location was fantastic as you could stroll to the waterfront and restaurants from our hotel. The rooms were clean and newly renovated. Loved our trip and the small town! Worth the drive!
I requested a pull out bed and got a response immediately that one would be put in my
Room and they also gave me a code for the door as we were due at the hotel after hours.
