We loved Gold River and specially our day on the Uchuck lll. We had no time to check out the area around Gold River. That will have to wait until another time. But if and when that time comes, and given the choice, we will not stay at the Ridgeview Motor Inn!

The small 9 hole golf course is challenging with steep terrain. Our group of 7 used power golf carts. The clubhouse serves sizeable lunches. The people are friendly. There are no grocery stores operating in Gold River. The town has downsized with the closing of their mill. It is a pretty community nestled in the mountains along the river.

Gold River area is quite scenic.

Gold River area is quite scenic. We drove over from Campbell River and explored the area down to Myra Falls. I would have liked to explore the area around Gold River more and drive from there up to the north end of the island. We took the Nootka Sound day trip on the Uchuck boat and found it very interesting to see all the fish farms and other activities on the sound. You are well advised to bring some food with you to Gold River as the restaurants have limited open hours and there is no grocery store in Gold River.

Gold River is a pretty, proud of itself little town which can be reached by a 1.5 hour vehicle ride from Campbell River. The road is supurb in maintenance and is practically, in total, along the shorelines of lakes or a river, always with spectacular look-offs. The town folk have quality jobs in the logging and lumber industry, ocean fishing, tourism on shore sites, tours to sport fishing sites, guides for fly-fishers (my interest) , and a number are said to be working remotely from their homes There is a calm, contented feel to this town. Definitely a gem find at the end of a spectacular road journey.
