The history of the place, the Fort itself.
The history of the place, the Fort itself. Not much of a village but we went for the Fort and its history. Not much choice for eating though but you have to expect that. Very similar to rural Australia in that respect.

Excellent town swimming pool, not a lot of good restaurants . However plenty of sights and really close to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump (opens at 10 am) we were early. good place to spend half a day and then on to other things. Some of the usual fast food places but you can only do that so many times.

Fort Macleod hosts a horse slaughter plant called Bouvry Exports and that brings a dark and down-trodden energy to the town, which locals tell me has a high crime rate.
There are some nice businesses in the town though.

Fort Macleod is a wonderful place to spend time I love all the old buildings and the Empress Theater is just fantastic. There are other places to see and some close by. Fort Macleod is easy to get around, and has many eating places, and the bakery on main street is wonderful, stop and have lunch there.

We come every year for the Santa Claus parade and the festival the night before, which includes hay rides and petting zoo. Fort MacLeod is a beautiful town with lots of great amenities, relatively nice motels and a fabulous bakery on the main strip. Also really enjoy China City for supper.

It has a cute Main Street with some lovely old buildings.
It has a cute Main Street with some lovely old buildings. Several motels but all are very basic to rather run down looking. No interesting restaurants that we could find. But it’s close to Head Smashed In, which was the reason for our visit.
Sunset Motel is well-located for an overnight stay in Fort MacLeod. The room I had was clean, the bed comfortable and there was a good-sized desk. The TV screen was huge. It was also very quiet because there is a glassed-in walkway in front of the rooms to shelter people in winter. This acted as an excellent sound barrier. Though I didn't need it, I did notice plug ins for block heaters in the winter season.
The guy running the hotel was super friendly and accommodating. Beds were comfy and we had everything we needed in our room. We went up for a movie shoot and stayed 4 nights. Would definitely stay there again. For a 2 star hotel it was just the perfect place to go to catch some much needed zzzz’s.
I booked this room about an hour before I was in town, and they had no issues accommodating me. The price was perfect for a weary driver, and the space in the room was ample. It was really quiet, which was surprising for a hotel by a highway.
One of the best hotel beds I've ever slept on.
We stayed at this motel as it was very close to the campground our family was at. It is older but very clean, equipped with a fridge and kitchens. The beds were comfortable. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
The motel is clean which is one of the most important to consider in looking for a place to stay. It was quiet at night even it is along the main highway. It is affordable.
The room was clean and well-equipped.
Even though the motel is on the highway, the building structure ensured that it was very quiet.
The room rates were excellent.
We did not require breakfast from the Hotel. The staff were very helpful about the property. Being new to the area they did very well answering all my questions.
Loved the location! Straight down a couple blocks is the charming downtown of Fort MacLeod.
Staff at the Motel were pleasant and property was maintained.
