Location was amazing. Sandy bottom lake, tons of room indoors and out. Large swim spa was a huge bonus! Garage full of water toys was also great and LOVED not having to bring any bedding or towels!

Small town on Trent-Severn Canal, with interesting lock in the centre of town. Many small shops if that appeals to you! Several restaurants, but little overnight accommodation. We enjoyed eating outdoors at Just for the Halibut. Boyd Museum and Saturday Farmers Market are local attractions. Kawartha Dairy outlet is a popular spot for young and old. Interesting to watch the boats and to see the ospreys nesting near by.

My family and I did not run into many issues at all.
My family and I did not run into many issues at all. Most people are polite, willing to talk but like any place there are others who'd rather you not be there (maybe they falsely thought we were from Toronto, I don't really know but we are local to Kawartha Lakes).
Best places to walk through: Settler's Village (they had a neat scavenger hunt our kids enjoyed when we went through). The beach attached to the locks makes for some different pathway options more interesting than most towns or even cities. Bolten St. has many shops and great dining.
Best places to eat at: Full Cup Cafe (Big "EAT" sign, can't miss it driving or walking through). Cajun Chicken, The Taphouse, and Luigi's are also great places to try. Lakeside Chineese is hit or miss, clearly there are cooks that are passionate and others who don't care as much; still worth a try.
Best place to stay: Gordon's Cottages and Marina. So nice it's nearly impossible to book a stay there, I guess I got lucky.
Best places to shop: Home Hardware - staff is nice and will help you find whatever you need. We personally found London Trading Post one of the best clothing options if you are into that style.
Honorary mentions; if you into boating there's plenty of places to dock and rent. Great place for fishing.
Oddness: Eerily quiet after 11 even at pubs.
Unless you count Settlers Village as a museum I don't know of any other place as I didn't have time to check it out, but I can vouch for Settlers Village being creative and fun no matter the season you go.
